It looks like IDW cancelled this, due to low sales... but really, they starved promotion for it due to the Sitterson controversy earlier this year.

Scarlett's Strike Force Cancelled Before Final Order Cutoff For First Issue

Aubrey Sitterson Talks Scarlett's Strike Force, The Influence Of Cartoons, And A Socialist Writing GI Joe

Regardless of my politics or his, I think his take on Joe wasn't what I wanted to see, and his abrasive attitude towards the fans wasn't, either. I realize extreme fans can be obnoxious to, well, an extreme, and obviously nobody should be sending death threats over a friggin' comic. However, Sitterson was pretty vile to people who weren't being vile to him. That's about as far as I want to go about that stuff.

This is probably a blow to some of you enjoying the shared universe. This is probably good news to those of us who aren't.

It's a shame. I liked his take on Joe. It was fun and more importantly, it was FRESH. It wasn't without its problems, but it was exactly what the series needed after the awful, awful Karen Traviss run. The fact that he isn't getting the chance to even finish up his story is also disappointing.

Yeah, having read all the IDW-universe Joe stuff, Sitterson's run was so, so much better than everything else (except maybe the Costa/Gage Cobra stuff, which was very good, but not a genre I'm particularly into).

Really sad that this series is getting cancelled, especially since it seems an enforced moratorium on promoting it is at least partially to blame. I just hope any future Hasbro Universe Joe series don't go back to dull "G.I. JOE IS VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS" stuff. I've seen Mairghread Scott suggested as a good pick, and I have to agree - she did great with Joe characters in First Strike, and it'd be nice to have a Joe story from her that isn't hijacked by Visonaries last-minute...

Well, believe it or not, I was actually not going to read the series. I had finally decided that I didn’t like the series and I was just going to read the summaries on TFwiki.net. So I guess this just saves me some trouble.

Only problem now is that IDW G.I. Joes are now in the same position as they were back when Karen Traviss’ run was canceled. Not to mention MASK is up in the air too.

The Hasbroverse, this leaves only Transformers vs Visionaries and Rom & the Micronauts. Both of which are 5 issue long miniseries, the former is basically a another Transformers title leaving the latter as the sole remaining non TF title, and it’s only going to outlast this one by two issues.

So, what’s IDW going to do now?

Oh, I very much agree with that idea. She did a great job with the characters in First Strike. It would keep her around AND give the Joes a good writer that loves the characters, a win win.

But as for how I want the Joes to be portrayed, I’d like them to be portrayed like NEST in the live action movies, but keeping the weird sci-fi elements in. I’m just not a fan of them being portrayed as superheroes.

I wasn't aware of any of this at all. But from the interview Bleeding Cool did with Sitterson, I'm getting the impression that he was attempting to frame Scarlett as some sort of laser wielding Che Guevara? Yeah, that definitely doesn't sound like someone that should be working on G.I.Joe. Or any comic book based on a children's toy. I'm all cool with progressive reinventions of the classics that can teach valuable lessons to the future generations (Ex: the recent DC Flinstones comic) However, I draw the line at glamorizing political ideologies that condone the mass murder of innocents, especially if your magnum opus is about toy superheroes aimed at kids ages 8 and up.

Well, damn. This sucks. I was looking forward to this. This has been the most fun Joe's been in years. Going all out sci-fi crazy was an excellent choice.

Shows how out of the loop I am, though. I didn't even know there'd been any controversy on the part of the writer.

    Meh. I won't miss it.
Sittersons run had a great Revolution one-shot and it's first 3 issues were solid but beyond that it began to feel very...Sloppy? Very little story and way too much action which is ironic seeing how it's G.I Joe.

Yyyeah, there's nothing like that level of politics in the comic. The influence of Sitterson's politics on the book basically amounts to "Joes switch to non-lethal lasers instead of bullets" (which is also just him making things more like the cartoon, which he likes) and "G.I. Joe becomes an international group instead of an American one" (which is also a thing other Joe fiction has done).

I'm sure there are people who'd claim that him doing a new version of a rando '90s Joe who is a Samoan woman is also "political", but I would roll my eyes at those people.

Sitterson's Scarlet was not fomenting third-world revolution. There's no suggestion of that in the comic. I find it unlikely that that would ever happen in the comic. I do not think that was a thing anyone had to be worried about.

    good riddance

that said, the idea of steering GIJOE into a more scifi based adventure series is a decent idea. the franchise needs to evolve past being "America, Fuck Yeah" the toyline if it's going to have any hope of surviving the Global Market brought on by the Information Age.

but Sitterson's execution wasn't that great. and yeah, when the guy writing "America, Fuck yeah" the comic book goes on twitter and talks shit about the anniversary of 9-11, maybe he should be removed. regardless of who agrees or disagrees with his views, enough people disagree, and that makes him bad for business. (especially the massive number of people who decided to boycott ALL of idw's books because of Sitterson)

while I personally would rather have Mairghred Scott writing TAAO (or just Transformers in general) until the Heat Death of the Universe. her take on the Joes she used during First Strike, actually made me give a shit about them for a brief moment. (until the Plot Shit the bed and forced in Visionaries with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the kneecaps) so maybe she'd be a decent fit for a Joe book.

Low sales? How many issues are even out yet?

Either way, that's got to be one of the fastest cancellation of theoretically ongoing series I've seen in a long time.

    Meh, not surprised at all.

Army Ants was a surprise that piqued my curiosity, but the current GI Joe Series (that ended at #9) was terrible.

    Honestly...
Can't say I care very much of writers political views or what they're tweeting. This includes both Sitterson and Visaggio. I'm in for reading comic books and unless someone's political views are really hamfisted into the book... It goes completely over my head.

A more sci-fi take on Joes could be fine... But I was hoping for the team dealing with all implied fallouts of Earth now having access to all this new alien technology and new global threats because, let's say, various new made up terrorist groups can now hoard illegal technology. I wasn't really interested in underground monsters or Army Ants.

My G.I.Joe needs were fulfilled by ARAH and it did not leave much room for me to care about another Joe title either surviving or being cancelled.

I hope this starts the death knell of the silly Hasbroverse experiment. Sorry, but I really hate the idea. I tried to give it a chance but it sucks, the universe are better being separate.
