So I got scalpel today MOC (off of ebay, dont worry, he aint retail yet, lol) and after watching the video that Peaugh posted of Mikes review, I noticed that his bot mode aint right. So I took some pics of what the instructions says he suppose to look like

The back black leg guards are on a hinge much like the ones on Primes forearms/truck hood. This allows them to be pushed back and then folded all the way up in bot mode

You can tell that its suppose to cause it has some spikes detailed into the plastic, which you would never see otherwise so why put it there?

If you only rotate the bottom half of the legs (the parts that he actually stands on) and have the black guards up, he actually stands on the 6 points very nicely

And lastly, the way Mike did his waist is wrong, he most have put the pieces back on backwards after the popped off maybe (?? BTW, not trying to disrespect you in any way mike, I really enjoy your reviews =) ) but the two knobs on the scope actually have a peg and port

To allow the two halves to sit like

Which allows you to see the nice bit of detail sculpted into the pieces insides, which again you would never see otherwise

So thats what I found out today, lol.

Heres some snaps of the actual instructions too in case you guys were curious

I knew it couldn't possibly have been designed to stand the way it did in the previous pics, on the sides of the legs.

Nice! Many thanks for the clear-up!

I just have a minor add-on to make the "Doc" even better:

Pop off his arms, and put them back reversed -this way, they'll bend down, like a real praying mantis' should.

I also turned all the middle sections of his legs 180 degrees - so that the small 'hook' faces up. He can stand so firmly in this pose, that the front pair of legs isn't even touching the ground (I'm planning to remove those anyway, to make him anatomically correct).

Overall an excellent toy, gotta love the spectacles... :)

No, they don't go back. To be frank, they very tightly fit even when they are in normal position, and you have to pull them real hard to get them out... with the arms being made of translucent rubbery material, I can see them breaking or bending irreversably.

So, I just keep them outside in Microscope mode - they do not look out of place, seem kind of like some fold-down manipulators that you can use to fix the microscope in one position. I plan to give them a metallic paint (and his antennae too) because the translucent plastic looks kinda out of place on him.

I wonder... will Scalpel be ever repainted into G1 Perceptor colors? Knowing Hasbro, he will be repainted... THough I cannot see his mold as an Autobot, really.

In one of the most awesome of ways possible. Think of two words: MAD SCIENTIST! He is an awesome figure and out of the next wave of basic figures he is the only one I plan on getting.

I own Scalpel, for such a small figure he's very intricate and fun, I just really wish he had better leg articulation :(

I plan on cutting away some of the plastic hindering the legs for much better poses so that he'll stand more like a Praying Mantis should stand.

Is it possible to turn the upper most part of his leg upside down, making the socket point upward?
