One of my best friends in the world was in a tight spot...he has served in the U.S. army for several years, and met a girl, got married and had a baby. He got a house, a dog, and everything was fine.

Well, his wife left him, and took the baby, only saying that she was never really in love with him. He was left with his dog who he loves very much.

To make a long story short, he has been asked to serve his country and take another tour of the middle east, and he left a couple of weeks ago with the 101st Airborne Division to afganistan.

He had a favor to ask of me and I was honored to accept. He asked me to watch his dog Zili, for the next 15 months until he gets back.

She misses him, that much is evident, but she has been doing really well. She has a lot of love surrounding her.

The only worry I have is that she liked to chew things up. I have had to put almost all of my collection away in storage. :(

And here she is, half black lab, half terrier.

Half black lab, half TERRIER? Well, I could see a small terrier being the father (after seeing how crazy my Rat Terrier is) but not the mother.

Cute dog. Thanks for helping your friend out. He is lucky to have a friend who would do that.

She will mix well, and yes buy a squishy ball to let her chew.

It is going to be hard to give her back, but my girlfriend and myself have decided we are getting a puppy the day we have to give her back. :)

One of the first things I did when I got her was go out and buy all kinds of things for her to chew on, but just to be safe I'm keeping all the things I wouldn't want chewed up stored away.

dude that is kick ass that you can do that for him. It must suck that he lost his wife and child and now he has to serve again. Miltary people are some of the greatest people in the world and it awesome that you can help out. I have a beagle who chews up everything but usually it is something that has had food on it. My best bet for you man is to get her a bone like a ham bone you can get from walmart it keeps my dog entrained for hours!

Too cool of you. Hardest part will probably be giving her back!

And tell your buddy to keep his head down.

Awww cute! Black lab and terrier? That's an interesting mix....
Great that you're doing this for your mate, but I agree with previous statements: It'll be hard to give her back :(

Actually, there ARE terrier breeds who are not small dogs. Airedales, pit bulls, and American Staffordshires are all terrier breeds, and all the same size as a lab.

She's a cutie! Its really great that you're willing and able to do this for him!

Thanks for all the support :)

The decision to take her in was one of the easiest things I have ever done.

He is a friend that I will always cherish, and in many ways I look up to him.

I tell him to be safe all the time, but I know he is a trained professional. He is a damn good soldier, and an even better friend. I'm so proud of him.
