this is just stupid San Francisco bans Happy Meals - latimes.com
Wow. If that ban becomes nation-wide, McDonalds is going down.
Yep! Fucking lame. I blame the parents. (to all parents...just say no)
And the board of supervisor's begin the hunt for new jobs next time they are up for reelection.
Seriously what happened to PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY?? I'm over weight. I don't blame snack makers or fast food. I blame myself. I frankly don't give enough of a rat's ass to work at losing a lot.
So, wouldn't the easiest way for McDonalds (and other restaurants with similar promotions) to get around this be to just charge $0.01 for the toy with purchase of the meal? The ban just says they can't give the toys away with the meal.
That boat sailed a long time ago in this country. But, many people seem perfectly happy to slowly give up more of their freedom to the government to avoid taking responsibility for the consequences of their actions, so don't expect this kind of thing to change any time soon.
That is just pathetic.
</sarcasm/> Oh no what a devastating loss to all of San Francisco's children. Lord knows it's not like McDonalds sucks or anything. </sarcasm/>
First people trying to take away California's violent video games, now the Happy Meals are next?
Man, it sure is nice to live in New York.
What kind of tubby little brats need more than 600 calories a meal? Most adults don't need that.
You said it. Without fast food... *shudders*
Well, before everyone starts to freak out, did anyone forget this huge killer of Americans?
How will kids get their Happy Meal Transformers now?
California's on a goddamn roll lately. I wasn't even aware that fat people lived in California. I all assumed they were all blonde-haired blue-eyed beautiful people. I guess someone hit 85 lbs and got mad about it or something?
Now there is only Sad Meals.
"...an agenda of food justice,"
This hasn't been moved to the "Epic Fail" thread?
i didn't like my parents making me eat Rhubarb as a kid, and I don't like a city telling me what i can give my kid.
i have bought a happy meal for just myself just as a pick-me-up.
they are for kids, but something about the box and the toy makes a bad day better.
I'm not really all that fussed about this, but I need to wonder: Who shoved this stick up California's butt? First trying to ban violent video games, now this?
And thus you are a total drain on society so now we have government intervention to try and prevent "you" from happening.
Anyway, more on topic, in cases like this you can't really slam the "personal responsibility" on the children that Happy Meals are targeted to and as some people have noticed a lot of the responsibility lies with the parents. There's a reason why agencies like Child Protective Services exist.
The existence of Happy Meal toys benefits no one (well aside from maybe McD shareholders?).
This is stupid. McDonalds is a high profile scapegoat. You want to make a real difference? Stop selling Energy Drinks, Soda, Candy and other bad for you crap at every food mart and corner store in North America.
There are poor choices everywere, why just stop at McDonalds?
Separate names with a comma.
