I'll try to keep this first post updated with all new Samba information as I read it. Organized by date, newest stuff at the bottom of the post.

    08.16.07
Holy crap, what I have been saying and asking for since day 1 may actually be happening!

    http://gonintendo.com/?p=23050

Ever since the Wii came out I thought this was a no brainer, and ever since the original Samba was released I have wanted another domestic release (I even played a bit of the Japanese only Samba 2000) of Samba de Amigo.

Now I wonder if this will be done with Wiimote and Nunchuck, or will we actually get a Maraca controller for the Wii? I'm just too elated for words right now, my crazy dancing maraca monkey shall be returning!

*crosses fingers and hopes information is accurate*

Must have maracas to be a real Samba de Amigo. Eyetoy and non-maracas Wii controller/nunchuk won't cut it. :)

you know someone will make slip-on Maraca shells for the the Wii controllers...or it might come with the game.

I honestly can't see it working without a bespoke controller.

With the rumble and speaker on the wiimote, there's really no need for special controllers. It will feel and sound like a maraca.

One will, the nunchuck wont though because there will be no speaker to imitate maraca sounds through.

Unless they come out with a cord to attach two Wiimotes together, then I could definitely see that working, but it would eat up batteries like crazy.

How? The game relies on knowing where the controller is, and that's something the Wiimote can only do while the controller is pointed at the TV, when it's not you're looking at a quite imprecise waggle factor if you're holding it like a maracca.

Couldn't you just use 2 controllers with no "connectors?" The game would know to read the controllers in pairs.

I suppose that could be, but TT makes a good point about the system knowing the locations of the controllers which I had neglected to take into account.

You pretty much need a peripheral to play the game.

the wiimote only needs to be pointed at the screen for pointing style activities, shaking it should be fine no?

While there are a few good titles on that list, is sure is filled with a ton of suckage. Where are all these third-party companies that moved to the Wii to make some kick-ass games?
