The Takara head is a great match for the Japanese Headmasters cartoon. I think the mouth eyes/mouth plate looks like Optimus and given he is the leader of the headmasters in that continuity it makes sense in a Prime kind of way  

Rebirth Chromedome is an ugly head. IDW Chromedome's head grew on me.

If this is a running change its great for people that didn't want to pay extra for the legends one. But considering Hasbro cuts back on the paint apps, it's strange why they painted Stylor.

 

I already have the Takara version. But if I can find this, I'll buy it just to keep MOC. I rarely keep any Transformers MOC but this is one figure I would keep MOC.

A few thoughts...
Seeing 2 of these on the shelf from a new case means this was not a switch and return. That was my initial thought when I saw one on the peg, then I saw the other. Those are the 2 in the pictures. I looked at the packaging. There is no tampering.

Could this be a factory mistake? Possibly, but why would there be 2?
Then there is the stamped numbers on the back of the package. Different from the other picture in this thread.

There is an unconfirmed sighting in California (PICS PLEASE IF YOU CAN!!) that is on the other side if the country.

While in production there could have been TakaraTomy heads ready on the spot and decided not to make more of the Hasbro version to save cost???

Anyways only time will tell if what I have is a fluke, a real change, or using up ready stock on the head.

I saw a Chromedome or two at Walmart the other day, I wonder which head they had?????

 

I'll apply Occam's razor and go with a factory mix up, I wont hold my breath at finding the nice painted head but you never know.....

 

Considering the titan master is painted I think this is a factory screw up also. Still an awesome screw up nevertheless. If Hasbro did Chromedome's with this head in the first place I would've gotten theirs instead of Takara.

Is doing what half assed? Having a personal preference? Do you seriously not get that some people aren't concerned with it being "faithful" to anything and just prefer the Takara head+Hasbro body combination for Chromedome?
Depending how widespread this variant is it gives those people a chance to buy their ideal Chromedome without having to buy both Hasbro's and an entire expensive imported TF just for its head.

 

Again, if people want a G1 accurate figure they should buy the Takara version. That's all.

Uh huh and some people are deliberately ignoring the fact that Takara's version is the most G1 accurate just to win an argument.

 

It's fine. The head on the artwork looks like a repainted Breakaway. Thank goodness the figure never got a head like that.
