I finally got around to updating the Transformers Wiki page for the G1 line in Europe and made it something else than "Those Wacky Toys The Americans Never Got".

    http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Generation_1_Europe_(toyline)

However, I encountered a few weird rumors that were already there before I edited the page:

The last part of this theory hardly makes any sense. Why would Hasbro have to redesign toys that were originally intended for a US release? How does any separation between Hasbro USA and Hasbro UK come into play there? Why didn't Hasbro have to redesign Action Master Tracks, Sideswipe or Bombshell, who were most certainly also originally designed with a US release in mind?

Also, Omega Spreem as Omega Supreme and Double Punch as Black Zarak make sense, and the similarities between Turbo Master and Bruticus are also apparent, but where exactly does Windmill resemble Ultra Magnus?

I heard this rumor quite a few times (also in the variation "Hasbro USA's license/trademark for the G1 logos expired, so they adopted the European symbols for the G2 line"), but it still doesn't really make sense to me. Has this ever actually been confirmed anywhere, or is it just fan speculation that got chewed back for years until it became adopted as gospel?

Reading through that was quite interesting However I did notice this bit:

I have the backing card for an italian action master Sideswipe and it is indeed called "Freccia". (I also have the backing card for Chargers italian release, but I can't remember the italian name right now)

Any chance you might scan or photograph the backing cards? I collect photos of European packaging for archiving purposes. :)

    Hey

At Botcon in California a few years ago I asked the Hasbro guy there (forget his name) about the UK exclusives.
He actually moved to the UK during the early 90's to oversee the line

He said that ALL the UK exclusives were designed in the UK
The theory is backed by the fact I have found Predator/Turbomaster and Action Master prototypes here in the UK from former employees of Hasbro UK

    Hope that helps

Interesting stuff. I never really read into some of that stuff before. I just figured the Elites were to Action Masters as Mega Pretenders were to Pretenders, and that apart from Omega the rest of them merely drew on the others for inspiration while being separate characters.
Also, the link is missing the ) part at the end, for anyone struggling to get it to work.
