According to transformertoys.co.uk (who keep track of Hasbro's application submissions to United States Patent and Trademark Office for toy patent rights), Hasbro has applied for a trademark called "TRANSFORMERS PRIME" yesterday (2010/04/12).

Details of the application are as follows:
Original Article : Hasbro Inc's Transformers Trademark Applications

It is unclear whether Hasbro has applied for the "Transformers: Prime" toyline based on the upcoming CGI TV Series of the same name OR for another Optimus Prime figure.

We will update you as soon as we get the confirmation.

    So do I!

I think it might be early for that, but I'd love to be surprised!

Considering TF: Prime is one of the flagships of the Hub network, which launches this fall, it's not that early.

Yeah, this doesn't exactly come as a surprise. The TV show is made to sell toys, not the other way around...

After how Aniamted got screwed over and Hasbro annoucning that the Movie line will continue for the foreseeable future AND when they said they would give TF a rest around late Fall with not many new toys... I'm pleasantly surprised.

It's nice to see that a toyline for the new show should be on it's way. I honestly wasn't sure if they would have one or not. Though I don't expect it'll be all that large. Should be interesting to see what characters get put into it and the show itself. Hopefully the show and line are good enough that Hasbro brings it back after TF3 has it's rain-o-pain. Would be nice to see it last more than just one season.

I'll be surprised if we don't see some sort of reveal for the show/line at Botcon. Concept drawings and prototypes at the very least, if not a packaging test-shot and a trailer for the show. Though the main focus of what Hasbro shows/talks about will most likely be HftD, PCC, and Generations. SDCC will, imo, be the one more focused on TFP, though I'd be surprised if it didn't have some fucos on the other lines of this year.

Toys for the new show are a given, and more Optimus toys are a given.

Pretty sure Animated was created on the off-chance the movie bombed, though - which is why it appeared to have been worked on since at least 2006 (we saw the logo and first - widely hated - Prime image in early 2007, IIRC), and had such a drastically different style. Hasbro was hedging its bets - if the movie bombed, they could quickly distance themselves with Animated.

As it turned out, the movies were more successful than anybody involved anticipated them to be, so unfortunately, Animated was not needed anymore except as the series to be used in between the first and second movies.

Hasbro was always going to say "of course we'll support Animated" at BotCon, because if they said "nah, Animated will eventually be cut short because we don't need it anymore", then they would lose customers who didn't see the point in supporting a line that already has a finite future.

I'm just quoting this becuase its the truth, and it deserves it.

Also for those who thought that TF: Prime wouldn't have a toyline what were you thinking? The only reason any Transformer series exists is to sell toys, thats it.

    This.

This time they're prepared, so when TF3 comes, they will know how to handle the situation.

Well, we already knew that the show would be named "Transformers Prime", so I'm surprised they didn't file for the trademark sooner...

If the Hub doesn't start til Mid October, and movie toys are likely to release around June, that raises the question as to how Hasbro plan to deal with toys based on the show.

Not really surprised here about anything except that we didn't see this sooner. A toyline for the new TV series was a given. However, I'm honestly only expecting show characters this round (what Animated was for the most part) as they'll be putting anything non-show related most likely into HFD, PCC and Generations. Which is fine. I'll cherry pick from all the lines like I've been doing for the past couple of years and get what I think suits my collection best. :)
