If that's true Sony will be the next Sega of the console makers.

I still don't think we need a PS4 so soon.

I doubt we will be getting a PS4 what I do think will happen is within the next 3 - 5 years the current models of PS3 will be phased out in favor of a new model series that do as Sony want its customers to do to be able to play their games.

They said the same exact thing for the PS3. It's a feature that is possible in any Bluray but never used. Everyone said the PS3 was going to end used games forever.

Microsoft is apparently doing the same thing. This is pretty stupid if it is true.

Face it. Game companies hate the used game business. They are going to make it a thing of the past. I don't like the constant internet connection. That will really hurt a lot of gamers.

the same thing is said about the next xbox. i don't believe it because with any common sense a lock out feature of this kind would cause people not to buy their system thus leading a loss of money and no company wants that.

Time to raid the Gamestop Cookie Jar of used 360 and PS3 game while I can and not purchase any new games that might activate that feature.

If the rumor was to be true, then that would put multiple businesses on the shelf, Gamestop, and Gamefly come to mind. If they were to do some censor BS like that I can see people returning the merchandise, I personally use Gamefly, if it's a decent game I'll eventually buy a used copy, so I guess I'd stick to the PS3.

How would console makers explain it, though? What kind of BS spin could they possibly put on it to make it sound like a GOOD thing?

    I don't see it happening.

Hold on, I may have a few things they COULD say to make it sound good:

"Hey kids! Our systems don't respond well to scratched discs, and you know what discs are scratched?! USED GAMES! So, be sure to tell your parents to buy you the brand new sealed up ones, that way they play right!"

No? How about... "Who wants old used games? We don't! Neither do your systems! So, why not make your systems feel special, and purchase the brand new minty games from your normal retail stores, because the economy needs it!"

Yeah, that was more difficult to think up bullshit, stupid answers than I thought.

Reading over the article, I can imagine the disc would only play on the one console in full, playing the disc on another console would activate the 'trial'. Say goodbye to lending games to friends.

This would absolutely destroy gaming for me if it were true. Force me into having an internet connection to my system all the time, while also prohibiting me from buying used games... I don't always buy used, but when I do, it's for a game I missed the release on. If you force people into downloading older games, then you also force people into eating up data. So unless they made the online storage gimmick of PSN+ universal, then it would just be a clusterfuck.

I don't believe any of this is going to happen (from Sony or MS). You can't count on 100% of the consoles to be connected to the internet, forcing users won't solve the problem. I'm sure its something thats been considered, and thats probably hwere the rumors come from.

Until theres 100% saturation of high speed/low cost internet then its still just a dream.

Hopefully they'd get some balls and say "We fucking hate the 2nd hand market who are raping our profits".

Of course, it wont happen though.
