my guess is that it looks just like the PS3 only lighter...ala PSP
So it'd be a ps3 without bluray? That can't happen due to bluray games. Lack of hdd? No, games use that too. Removing the processor? Definitely can't do that.
Sounds to me more like wishful thinking.
What would be nice, is a version that'd actually fit in my entertainment rack worth a crap(you too microsoft). Consoles being giant lumps of plastic is getting tiring when trying to fit it in with receivers and switches.
But the cheaper version of the 60 didn't have any card slots either. I never use those damn things anyway, since the PSP and it's cards are so easy to plug in, I use the PSP as a tranfer device.
To me this sounds like they are going back to the stripped down 20gb hardware, but maybe w/o the little HD.
with less USB ports and no card readers....seems like its going to be more of a game system than a entertainment system
I do end up using a lot of it's extra features though, like yesterday I was streaming TF:TM to my PSP at work using remote play, and We were checking out my cousin's wedding photos in HD on it two weeks ago. If they removed the card slots, it would still be ok, because the PSP or Camera can be plugged into one of the USB ports and be used in the same way.
But I hope they don't go lower than 40 gigs. 20 is a pain on my 360. before I know it, I'm cleaning demos and videos out to make room for new demos.
Still though, you can easily and legally swap out the PS3's HD for a huge one and not void warranty.
I'd hope so.
I also wish that this is the cheaper, more affordable PS3. I want one, but I don't wanna spend half a grand on one.
This should be the $400 40gb model. Card reader missing plus missing two of the usb ports. You don't need four anyway and if you did you could get a hub. I really hope they release this soon.
Fans and developers have been asking for a lower priced SKU so I hope this is it.
I use the card readers on mine, but they are not totally necessary. And I have never needed all USB ports at once. I think a 40 gig model for $400 could be very sucessful. Plenty of memory and all the benefits of the system.
I must say I have used all 4 USB ports at once (mouse, keyboard, headset, and controller charging), but it definitely is not a need for the system.
Cheaper version would be good.
Gah! Just when I bought a PS3 last week and now there's rumors of a cheaper PS3!
It probably won't have wireless built in either....just like the 20g version.
The only thing stopping me from buying one is the price. So whatever they need to do to drop the mark (besides cutting blu-ray or hdmi) I'd be okay with.....
No, the FCC entry said it had wifi.
Eh, I bought mine in February and even after price drops don't regret what I paid for it, it was worth it to me. Even after the bastard IRS kept my tax return
I figure price drops will only help the sucess of the console.
I dont regret buying mine when I did, and I definitely don't regret having 60 gigs over 20 or 40, especially after how much I have to juggle 360 memory for demos and games.
Good point but I doubt the price differences will be substantive in my country, Singapoe.
Did I mentioned that I had trouble with my set...it came on hanging and it couldn't "pair" with my controller!!! The tech guy say they couldn't repair it and my defective set would be send to China or Japan (can't remember) for further checks. Thankfully, Sony Asia gave me a brand new set!
I assume you use all that for FPS? If so, I'll feel a lot better about buying a PS3 eventually. I feel ******ed using an X-Box controller for FPS.
