Heard this on Don Murphy's forums:

Thanks to Chamelion for this rather interesting news. Wonder if they'll actually make a sequel, or go with a more faithfull remake.

I really don't know if Toho would allow it, after a rather poor peformance in the US. I guess I'll have to wait and see how it pans out. Toho renamed it Zilla in the Final Wars movie and easily been defeated by the big guy himself. If Toho were to really give Hollywood a second chance on a new Gozilla flick, I would think it would be a remake of some sort.

Ah crap, Zilla's second outing, just what we need.
Bring back the real Big G, have a continuation of the series, pick up where Final Wars stopped.

Man, either that article went through a German-to-English computer translator, or it was written by Yoda. :lol

Anyway, if they make a new one, they'll find that respecting the source material won't help them any if the movie still sucks anyway. Give us something good!

Sony can get the license any day it wants because Sony has money. Despite what the very small amount of Godzilla fans on the planet think, if Sony wants to make another Godzilla film they will make another Godzilla film - be it a perfect recreation of the original Japanese one or a wild insane version were Godzilla shoots lasers out of his eyes and fights giant bugs in the jungle or something.

That would be AWESOME! The problem with Hollywood Godzilla is they made it less awesome than the original.

Actually now that I think about it I would certainly pay to see that.

Yeah, cause Final Wars was such a GREAT movie.

Give me a more faithfull remake of the first movie anyday. Peter Jackson, I'm looking at you.

Yeah, my comment sort of came out wrong, I mean continue with the Shinsei Goji storylines, where none of the plots really twined, (except G X MG, Then the one with TokyoSOS), but set maybe some years after Final Wars.

Also, after what he did for King Kong, I would Love to see Peter Jackson try his hands at a Godzilla movie.

I might be stirring up the hornet's nest when I say this, but I think it'd be neat if they got Peter Jackson to do Godzilla.

Honestly, if Sony knocks Emmerich and Devlin around again, I really hope it's for a sequel to Independence Day. That movie stands well on its own, but the little universe they set up - where there are more of those aliens than we might have thought - makes for a really neat premise. It'd also be cool to see how humanity recovered.

Well, I want to see Independence Day 2. I don't know about the rest of y'all.

I could see myself watching it, another little bit of Trivia, its funny that 'Independence day' is mentioned, in the film, the little kid frequently is seen playing with the 'Trendmaster: Mecha King Ghidorah' toy, from Godzilla vs King Ghidorah in 1991.

    (w00t for teh nerdy facts!)

Hanna-Barbera did that very thing about 20 years ago.

Independence Day is one of the goofiest half baked science fiction movies ever.
And you know what? I loved it! I would see a sequel without question.

Tristar’s Godzilla movie wasn’t a bad giant monster movie, but it wasn’t a Godzilla movie.
I had no problem with the change in the character design. Look at Godzilla over the past 50 years and you’ll see lots of physical changes.
However in every Godzilla movie he can breathe fire and he ALWAYS attacks things that attack him.
ALWAYS! Even in the goofiest movie in the series Godzilla is a fighter.

GINO or Zilla or whatever he’s called now spent most of the movie running away.
My son watched the American Godzilla (he calls him ‘Silver Godzilla’ –I <3 my boy!) for the first time a few months ago.
He kept asking “Why doesn’t he fight?”

I had other problems with the movie’s themes; if there was an anti-nuclear theme present, it was clumsy.
But to expand on that would be boring.

Still, I think that they could pull off a sequel set in the continuity of the first movie.
The Godzilla: The Series cartoon pulled it off well.
But with the way Toho slammed ‘Zilla’ in GMK and Final Wars I wonder if they would want to grant them license.
I know it has been mentioned that Sony has money, but money isn’t always enough.

Anyone here know any word on the new Gamera cartoon?

I had several of the Trendmasters Godzilla toys.
My wife bought them for me.
Back then she was my girlfriend and she bought me toys.
Now, she is my wife and she wonders when I am going to stop getting toys. (HINT: never)

Its kind of sad because the plastic has become brittle and broken on most of them.

    It's suitmation!

Rumors of a sequel to the American movie have been circulaiting for years, I don't put any faith in this now than I did then. Toho was appalled at the Tristar movie and they are not going to be giving them or anyone else the license for a long time.

Oh GOD no. I can see it now; a 15 hour, sweeping epic (with 6 minutes of anything interesting actually happening, and a 4 hour long, dodgy CG battle, which appears to be set on a planet with 2 distinct light sources).
Still, it'll be amusing to watch people whining about a DIFFERENT movie for a change.

Yeah, I don't really want a Peter Jackson version of Godzilla.

I was including King Kong; that had a couple of good minutes in it (Andy Serkis getting eaten by worms was quite good, and Naomi Watts is cute).

I am not certain why I think this, but I think Guillermo Del Toro could turn out a great G-flick.

    I just like his stuff.
