Weaving might make a good Megatron, but he doesnt care about anything except the money. Its a slap in the face to a man who helped start and fuel a phenomena that has captured the imaginations of young men and women alike for going on 30 years... They took Cullen but not Welker... bullshit. there may have been others who played Megatron from series to series but there is only 1 Prime and there is only one Megatron.. See in the writers eyes Prime is iconic.. and Megatron is just well....apparently nothing.

For you and a percentage of hardcore fans, perhaps. But for overall performance, I give the edge to David Kaye for his take on BW and BM Megs. (Although Welker's TFTM Movie Megatron is outstanding, as opposed to his less dramatic performance in the G1 TV series.)

And it's not easy for me to say that because I've been a Welker fan since I was a kid, and I'm a purist when it comes to voice acting. But that's not to say that Kaye is a better actor than Welker, or vice versa. (Welker's certainly more experienced, but that's beside the point.)

It all comes down to the voice direction: G1's was more cartoony and exaggerated, while BM's and BW's was overall more realistic and dramatic. It's amazing what a difference a decade made in cartoon voice acting.

And as HUGE a fan as I am of Welker, I'm actually a little relieved he wasn't cast as Megatron. On the other hand, I wish he had at least gotten it over Hugo Weaving. Egads. I mean, he definitely has a distinctive voice, but he's no Megatron.

But I'll grant that my opinion could change once I hear how he does in the movie. There have been other "celebs" who have done animation voice acting who genuinely surprised me, and in a good way.

Why are you kidding yourself, you BDF®? Rumor has it that along with the rediculous amounts of $$$, Weaving wanted creative control over his character and one of his first demand was a bigger "cod-piece" and golden blinged-out teeth for Megs.

On the other hand, Welker volunteered to do it for free and donate his kidney to some poor underserving 3rd world nobody just for the chance to be the voice of Meg.

And Welker wanted to play the part solely out of the generosity of his own heart? Please. :rolleyes2  They're both actors. They're both in it for the money. If you think anything else, you need to get out of your house once in a while.

It would be an interesting compromise if Starscream was voiced by Welker since the Armada/Energon/Cybertron SS voice actor never did justice to the 80's version IMO...

I'm just guessing that because Starscream's voice is much of his character trait as his intentions to dethrone Megatron. Ironhide is mentioned having a cowboy thing going on and Trailbreaker is the closest I can think of Welker in that field.

The Dr. Viper thing is the closest I can of what Welker can do as Starscream and/or Cobra Commander. As stated, Ironhide I'm only guessing that he can still do that voice. It's not that hard afterall.

When someone said "Not Megatron" the first thing I thought was Frenzy. It just makes sense, since he's so good with the non-speech voicing.
