This whole thing blows my mind.

It's easier to purchase a real gun than a transforming toy.

    Well, let's see:

According to this rumor, all US-bound Megatrons will come with the orange tip.

Ages 3+ Up's MP-05 preorder page is closed.

Yep. Just as I suspected... SNAFU.

IF this is true, this news sucks, swallows, and vomits. Hardcore.

Australia has a much smaller population and thus a very small market compared to the US, Canada and Europe, and we get most of the US exclusives regardless of wether the chain actually exists here or not. And MP Magnus.

And according to customs and the police, they don't have a problem with MP Megatron.

    Australia rules :D

I'm still just going to wait and see who actually releases him in what state. And even then I'll probably just snag one off ebay and watch it get through just fine.

Yup yup. You are correct, sir. I heard the same. I can't say I know what's going on, but this fig is setting up to be a holy grail of sorts. Or its some sort of macguffin. You know, find the real MP Megatron without an orange tip, but then they're all real. :D

I suspect Hasbro may have requested this, which is a wonderful idea actually. If there was any incident with this toy, regardless of the fact it was imported and not a Hasbro product, Hasbro would catch the flack because it's a "Transformers" product. I suspect US customs will turn around all non-altered items. I think many people forget that Hasbro has exclusive rights to distribute Transformers in the United States. If they had wanted to under trade treaty, they could have had the import of all Takara toys stopped a long time ago. It has just not been in their interest to exercise this option. Now, it may be.

Yay! And we have a continent all to ourselves. :D

Does this mean that if you want to smuggle a real gun into the USA, all you have to do is paint the barrel orange and stick a plug down it?

If this is true, then it seems like a sound idea; if they can sell more figures by making some of them more accessible to other countries (notably the US) then why not? People from other nations would be trying to get them anyways, why not make it easier for them in the hopes of selling more product?

I changed my preorder from BBTS to Ages 3+ because I didn't want the orange cap. I really hope this isn't true.

I'm curious. Would packaging him in robot form solve this problem?

Well, I think he IS being packaged in robot mode, so that clearly didn't eliminate this controversy.

I also cancelled a preorder and got one at Ages 3+. So let's just cross our fingers.

Why not? It's a rumor because a distributor at Toy Fair stated it. Why shouldn't they post what they were told?

Anyways, I read that Japanese Toy manufacturers realize almost 50% of their revenues from overseas markets, so it does make sense.

Sure, but would there be a market for TFs in India? TFs clearly are the most popular in the US and Japan. Those two countries are the economic base to which they market.

Really, do you say these things just to rile people up?

Upon his release, there will no doubt be oodles of MP-05s listed on eBay from private sellers in Japan. Pretty sure that's how I'll be getting him, thereby avoiding all orange paint/plug concerns, real or imagined.

if the box is packaged inside another box, and the xray scan shows its a robot inside, why would they tear it open? I mean, you'd have to open it BEFORE you could see the pictures on the package that shows it turns into a gun.

I asked a seller in Japan about it, he said he'd pass the question on to Takara's sales reps for clarification. He was skeptical about Tomy themselves adding a cap though.

If i hear anything, i'll pass it on.

Yeah, but that's for someone who's importing personally, right? I suppose shops have to cover their backsides. I don't know if TakTom would do the dirty job themselves, but it does sound better than each shop has different orange cap.
I'm tempted to ring them up myself. Will see what godsenddeath's seller says.

I am importing personally and in Australia, so it's not really my business, though. Hope it won't be so hard for US residents. Jacked up ebay price sucks.
