Rumor of the Day: Joker to return in live-action Batman TV series | Blastr

    "Quote"

After Christopher Nolan is done with The Dark Knight Rises—most likely his last Bat-film—Warner Brothers wants to keep the franchise alive with a new TV series. And the Caped Crusader's Big Bad will be none other than the Joker.
Inspired by the success of the recent incarnations of Sherlock Holmes—and the endurance of Smallville—Warner Brothers is hatching plans to bring the Dark Knight back to television, and to bring the Joker back with him. A high-ranking Warner executive—who'd previously overseen hit shows such as ER, The West Wing, Friends and Two and a Half Men—is running point on this new series, which is said to be "in line" with the Nolan movies.
What's more, they want to use the medium shift as a way to get the Clown Prince of Crime back in action: Since they'll be recasting Bruce Wayne for the small screen—Warner allegedly wants Karl Urban (Star Trek)—bringing in someone to take over the Joker for the late Heath Ledger might not seem quite as heretical.
Bear in mind, this should all be taken with an iceberg-sized grain of salt.
How do you feel about a new Batman? Is Urban the right man for the cowl? And is it too soon to resurrect the Joker?

hmmm worked great as a movie but it's to dark and serous for that version of the big bad bat to be on tv.
i'd say give it a reboot and they will have winner

This could work depending on who is writing it. Crossing fingers it's someone familiar with the brand and most of all, is damn good at writing TV series.

So, Birds of Prey with dudes?

At least they used Mark Hamill's voice for the Joker.

It could work well if they keep the same sets/ vehicles. They could also have more time to show batman doing actuall detective work, and it could transition to TV easily since not every episode would have to be batman saves entire city like the movies.

I think the idea has a lot of potential, but things like this can easily get screwed up. Lets hope if this does come to fruition that it's awesome.

As long as the Joker doesn't try to be Heath Ledger I'm all for it. As far as I'm concerned, every Joker has been good, even Cesar Romero, but they've all been totally different portrayals of the same character. Find the right guy who can do an original spin on him and it'll work out well.

Now i can get behind a live action Batman cartoon that doesn't involve the POW and BAM signs.

Karl Urban would make a pretty cool Batman I think. And playing up the detective angle would probably be a good idea too. Be like a mix CSI/Law & Order/Dexter in Gotham City.

If it's like a live-action BTAS, I'd be all over it.

If it ends up being dark enough, then I'll probably like it.

I hope this turns out well, I'd love an on-going live-action Batman series if they do it right. Smallville's been around for a long time, so hopefully this will have the same sort of success.

    Go with a reboot.
I've always wondered why there haven't been any live action Batman besides Adam West's. Guy with no powers who's villians are often just guys in funny outfits. Seems like it wouldn't be that hard to do.

Strange that the one Superhero that should be the hardest to do weekly has had the most TV series of all: Superman.

If they have the budget to do it right, then it could turn out to be something awesome. On the other hand if they get one thing wrong, it could end up as a horrible joke.

There you go. They better sink some real cash into this if they want even a hope of it taking off.
