Source: Did Tim Cook and Gabe Newell Meet Today?

Hmm, if this is true, what's Gaben up to? Is the SteamBox becoming a reality and the hardware being made by Apple? I can only imagine the console those two juggernauts could create. Add in iOS device support, and the WiiU is dead out of the gate.

Or is Apple looking to buy out Valve? They are sitting on $100 Billion cash, so it's not like they don't have the money. Apple loves closed systems, so something like Steam would be very interesting to them.

What does everyone think? Is this nothing, the next best thing in gaming, or the end of the world? :lol

The thought of an Apple gaming console makes my skin crawl for some reason.

Heh. Except the DoJ is laying the smack-down on that idea now.

I don't think Apple needs to push into game hardware- they have enough real estate in play, the only place to go is the TV and scuttlebutt suggests they're working on that already.

TVs are only a matter of time. My boss and I just met with an Apple rep a few days ago about an educational grant, and he said they are going to be taking on HD streaming media devices like the Sony Smart Streaming Player and Roku boxes head on with the next major AppleTV update. I'm guessing that means access to the Apps Store to turn your TV into one big iOS device.

As someone who owns just about everything that's out now (360, Wii, PS3, iPad 2, iPhone 4S, 3DS, DS, and a gaming PC with Win8 CP; just need a Vita) I'm not for or against any one group.

The price fixing is a concern, but I guess I'm more excited about Valve joining the console fray rather then what problems Apple will bring with it (if that's what this is about). I just keep thinking that as gaming is slowly moving towards a completely digital download model I'd rather have Steam lead the way then XBL/PSN or Origin (who is supposed to be doing the digital download for the WiiU).

Plus, maybe HL3 would be a launch title. :D

Apple is already part of the gaming world with ios. The AppStore mostly sells games. People are buying iPods instead of psvita and 3ds. I hope it not about a home console. I would rather see valve games come to ios like portal. Even if valve makes ios exclusive games.

I think a Valve/Apple console could be an amazing venture.

Apple has had a lot of success putting out quality hardware that they can make a decent profit on and which still runs well down the road, while Valve is basically the king of digital distribution for pc games.

If Apple handled the hardware end while Valve controlled the distribution of software, I could see such a console being a major player. Even if Apple had an additional app store for smaller games/apps sort of the way that xbla works, I think this could really work out well.
