This might show my lack of G1 know-how, but when i look up Ruination on Transformers Wiki and it shows a Decepticon Combiner. So why do 5 Wrecker combine to become someone with that uses a Decepticon namesake.

There was no G1 Ruination. The only previous use of the Ruination name was for the Decepticon combiner team in the Robots in Disguise series that was based on the G1 Combaticons/Bruticus. They're just reusing the name for the Wreckers.

I think it was in Robots in Disguise there were five Decepticons that combined to form Ruination.

This is just a case of name reuse. The two Ruinations have nothing to do with each other, and do not exist within the same continuity. It's just like G1 and Armada Smokescreen, G1 and DOTM Mirage, and Armada and DOTM Grindor. They probably had the name and wanted to reuse it.

It's supposed to be a double homage to the Wreckers and the Commandos.

"Ruination" does kind've fit in with how The Wreckers typically handle their business. But in this instance, I think its just a simple case of re-upping a Trademark.

Well it IS possible that the Decepticon Commandos were previously Wreckers on Cybertron. they were made from Autobot protoforms, if you guys remember.

^ This. Plus, how are you missing that Ruination is a crazy-perfect name for the Wreckers?

Personally, I'm less focused on the name and more on the fact that apparently, Hasbro's toy designers are fans of Last Stand of the Wreckers:

    Along with everyone else!

Not that I wouldn't want to see them but...only had one mission each with the Wreckers. Roadbuster and Whirl are much more iconic, and the heads for them are more distinct.

These are THE five original Wreckers from Target:2006. Yes, there was a time before Springer was on the team. That's the reference.

As if Hasbro is opposed to making more remolds of FoC Bruticus...

Give it time, we might see more Wreckers members as interchangeable limbs for Ruination.

That's what I was thinking! Do Guzzle, Rotorstorm, and Ironfist from Brawl, Vortex and Swindle, and they can take the place in the gestalt when someone dies. Just need characters for the other two molds.

That would be epic fun-ness of a grandiose scale. :)

I was so happy to see the Wreckers/Ruination reveal. It lets me get the toys without having Combaticon duplicates, because I'm uber-happy with my FansProject Bruticus set. Very happy with that.

It's Ruination because only hardcore fans would buy a set for a combiner named Xaaron.

Am I the only who remembers that the RID COmmandos started out as Autobots in stasis or protoform and were reprogrammed by Megatron?

Its a thin explanation why Ruination is being used for an Autobot combiner but it makes as much sense as any.

I also think it's just re-using a name so that Hasbro doesn't have to deal with the problem of losing a name for their products.

Doesn't seem like a bad choice of a name for a Wreckers combiner so why not re-use a pretty good name instead of having to invent a new name?
