When Classics revived the rubsign, I admit that my first feeling was nostalgia. "Oh, neat! That's from WAY back!" However, it didn't take long for me to remember why I got tired of them as a kid. They're an eyesore. For that matter, they're more susceptible to the effects of age and exposure to high or low temperatures. I was glad when they were phased out again--until RTS came along. I could remove them easily enough, and 9 times out of 10 I can do it in such a way that neither the toy nor the sticker is damaged. At times I really want to. Even so, I can never bring myself to do it in most cases because the collector in me wants to keep the toy original. What are your thoughts on the matter?
I almost always remove the rubsign unless it's somewhere where it won't get in the way of a real insignia.
I'm over it. At some point I'm going to order some sigil sheets from reprolabels and replace the rubsigns on all of my Classics and RTS figures. I'm a collector too, but I collect them for me. If tweaking it means no one else will want it, or pay me money for it, so what? I got it for me.
I'm with you there. I have no intention of ever selling most of my stuff. And yet the conflict is still there. It's probably a symptom of some kind of neurosis. Heh.
I buy toys that I like. If I buy something and there is something about it that bugs me and I can fix it, I do so without hesitation. Replacing rub signs or repainting a figure; if it makes the figure look better in my eyes then it gets done.
I love the rubsigns, there weren't that many figures in the RTS line, so the throwback was a cool little nod to the past. I say keep them!
Well I'm going to leave them on guys like Laser Optimus, where it's not even visible in robot mode. But man, Windcharger? It looks really bad, dude.
I was putting on his Reprolabels upgrade sheet today, which comes with two sizes of Autobot logo to replace the rubsign. That's actually why I was thinking about it.
I find them pointless. Even going back to G1 they were useless. Let me see, got the faction logo sticker and then the rub sign that shows the same thing after being rub. So with RTS, I remove them and replace them with something better.
I like em in hidden places like what BW did, but more times than not, I'm not a fan of rubsigns. Oddly enough though, I don't mind it on RTS Tracks, so it stayed.
I like rubsigns if they're the only symbol you see in vehicle mode, but not so much in robot mode. I took RTS Perceptor's out of his chest and put it on the hood of his vehicle mode, and put a regular Autobot symbol in his chest.
