I was just firing up the Xbox to see if I had any second thoughts on the games I wanted to trade in to get GTA IV. After 2 system freezes while playing Lumines I fired it up again, and nothing. Another restart- BAM- RROD.

Now I have up to a 6 week wait to play the only 360 game that IGN has given a 10!!!

    I feel so defeated.

Mine went a week before the Transformers game came out. At the time, I thought it was going to be a decent game, but had to wait several weeks to find out that it was shit.

It shouldn't take 6 weeks. When mine ringed out last month it was almost exactly 2 weeks.

That's good to know. I was pretty amped to play GTA after reading the reviews, ad having never played one I figured it be a great, fresh experience. Now I have to deal with call centers in India, sending a system back, and then the freaking wait.

I thought since my system was newer I was safe, but nope- dead as a doornail.

Is this problem still happening with the newer 360 consoles? I'd like to buy one but all this RRoD stuff really keeps delaying my purchase.

Save yourself the trouble of calling and put in your request here http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support That's how I did it and my shipping box showed up 2 days later.

Mine RROD'ed last month, and like Buzz, mine was back in roughly 2 weeks. It may have even been less.

I was very happy with the quick response time by MS.

Yeah, the turn around is pretty damn fast. I think it took me about two weeks to get mine back. What's cool is that they keep you very much in the loop in what's going on with your xbox. They will let you know when it's received, when it's fixed, and when they send it out. They managed to fix mine and send it back out in a day.

I also forgot to mention, they gave me a card for a free month of XBL Gold too. It was in the box with the 360.

Thought that was quite awesome of them. Had to cancel my renewal of my year subscription to save some money, so this free month has definitely helped.

Yeah, they gave me one too. Though I didn't have any games to play online at that time so it didn't do me much good. I kept it about 4 months before I activated it for Halo3. I've got another card now but I'm waiting until Tuesday to activate it.

Any idea when it's going to be safe to run out and buy one of these?

More than that, it's the first game IGN has given a 10 since Soul Calibur on Dreamcast.

My brother has been through 4 360s. I cashed in my insurance at the end of its life and got a pro 360 with the HDMI port on it. I hope it's good to go for GTA IV.

It would probably be alright to get one now a days. I think a lot of the newer models have the newer chipsets and heat sinks. I've heard people saying that the elites are safe as well. Plus, even if it does RROD, it's free to get it fixed and you are without your system for a couple weeks. Not a biggie. Your are not paying the shipping costs or repair costs.
