Agreed. It also fills up the packaging more, leaving less space around the toy.

He looks so tiny in that box..

I wish they would have made smaller boxes for a number of these figures. Then they could have more stuff on the shelves at once. Oh well.

    Yeah I don't get it.

They should make it smaller. Easier to store. And what's wrong with a regular square box?

Small looking vehicle mode. This looks cool though.

If there wasn't an acre of space around the figure, it might look okay. But as it is, the bot mode version sells this guy 100% more than a plain dump truck that looks like it's been crammed into an extra large box does.

    Whatever.

I'm the same. There are 2 basic reasons why it is better that way in most cases.

    1) transforming to alt mode is generally trickier.

    2) alt modes require less twisty ties.

Cards and boxes are sized based around the largest figure of the line, not the line as a whole. For instance, Energon Wing Saber was the largest Voyager toy... and he BARELY fit in his box. Meanwhile, Shockblast and Ironhide were no where near as "massive looking".

Vehicle mode looks better, imo. More old school that way.

Nice-looking. I like the idea of Bot-modes on display.

Has anyone else noticed that the display of Blackout on the side (bottom?) of the box has him named as Grindor? Something I missed?

Hasbro knows that completionists will be forced to buy the same toy twice because of the variation. More $$$ for them.

I could see a few problems for Hasbro.
It could end up with more returns than normal because people buying the same figure as they already have, not realizing it. Some kid has Long Haul and wants a Transformers toy. His parents or grandparents might know he has a dump truck transformer but they don't know TF enough to know they are buying Long Haul again.

Also, if the store just has the robot mode versions, it is much harder for parents to know which item to buy if a kid asks for one. I'm betting that when a kid asks for a specific transformer, he'll mention what it turns into, realizing it is the easiest way to people to know which one it is. So he'll ask his parents for the dump truck Transformer. Parents go the store and don't see a dump truck. Just a bunch of robots. Yes, they could look on the back of the box but some parents might not put that much effort into looking. So they get the kid something else. Hasbro just lost a sale.

takes the fun away for me and the "ah cool" factor as I "discover" the transformer for the first time

I love this too, as I am also inclined to display in robot modes as well

Blackout is dead, whereas Grindor isn't and is featured prominently in the ROTF Prequel Novel, if not the movie itself.

Yes. I remembered this reason yesterday as I opened Scout Dead End. Even on a little guy and with me using nail clippers, they were still much more of a pain in the aft than if he'd been in car mode.

This. with the addition that I always buy my Transformers in groups and open them all before transforming them, then transform them (using the instructions), then re-transforming them so I can get a hang on them. It's a ritual kinda thing.

That said, Long Haul looks tiny in there. Can't wait to get him, though. Now where's our remaining three Constructicons?

If that is the case, then who is it on the aircraft carrier and fighting prime in the forest that looks like Blackout? Is it Grindor, and is so, WHY didn't he pick some other alt mode?

I like it in vehicle mode in da box better because it would be easier to take out cause it would use less damn twist ties or whatever they're called
