Great to see GEARS again, especially with a solid G1 bio... however, I have to admit I would have preferred to see a more traditional colour scheme, rather than just hints of it. Hasn't this line had enough GRAY cars and trucks by now? And yes I know most vehicles are gray these days, and this would make it easier for TFs to blend in with normal cars... but in terms of character differentiation, it would be nice to have more variety. zmog
I think so, yes. Gears a repaint of Hot Shot...? HUH?!?!?! Yay Gears! Now where's my Universe Deluxe Gears original mold? I like Swerve. I'll be thinking of it as Sidewswipe no matter what the package says. But I find it strange since the original Swerve was a repaint of Gears. Now we need an ROTF Sunstreaker!
I don't mind that deco for Gears' robot mode but his vehicle mode should be light blue, (with red accents?) But why did they use the Stockade mold instead of the Dropkick mold? I have a suspicion that part of the deal with GM was that every Corvette transformer Hasbro makes has to have a red version eventually. After all,,, ALL CORVETTES ARE RED I wonder if this will eventually lead to a blue version? It's kind of a no brainer.
I keep repeating this idea so it hopefully gets some traction. I like the mold but the yellow color and Hot Shot character aren't my favorite. You know they'll repaint it eventually and I'm pushing for a character I might actually care about.
That deco on Gear's car mode is actually pretty spiffy IMO, but bot mode is a little odd looking. Nothing a little detail painting can't fix up, though. Swerve is interesting, but if I get Sideswipe beforehand then he's a pass.
What about Dead End? I've been thinking Hotshot would make a bitchin' Dead End. Give him a maroon car body, a grey chestplate, gold highlights, preferably a new head; he shares a "rounded German car" alt mode with G1 Dead End, though in this case it's a pseudo-Audi TT rather than a Porsche 928. Anyhow, more on-topic, I like these repaints quite a lot. Gears is a welcome throwback (in a mold I love), and even if his "gear" decals are a bit literal, I can dig it. I guess Swerve's original pickup-truck alt mode has been lost in the mists of G1; after five incarnations as such, he has pretty much sealed his new status as "third stringer red sports-car guy" (after Sideswipe and Cliffjumper). Somewhere, Windcharger is weeping quietly. It's great how these bios are both straight-up love letters to G1, though. Grumpy Gears and Metallurgist Swerve... how can I not buy them?
Interesting, I recall Hasbro saying at some convention that they don't like to have a repaint of a figure be a different faction then the original, and in fact, the one time it's happened in recent years with Cybertron Repugnus was a mistake on their part. I'm sure Gears wouldn't be pleased to see he's a repaint of a Decepticon SUV, while his own repaint Swerve gets to be a special edition Corvette.
Loving both of these, sold! Though, Walmart had a Gears and an SUV listed in their computers. So I'm wondering if there's another Stockade repaint (or retool?) planned.
Stockade was one of my favorite 07movie molds. In a perfect world though, Gears would get a new mold all his own. Maybe the next Classics/Universe line will at least give us a Legends figure or something.
I'm actually going to have to say pass on Swerve and go for Gears. I always liked the Stockade mold and I think Gears might look better than him.
Could the SUV had been Wheelie? I checked my walmart receipt this weekend and there were some funny listed names "American"-Sideswipe "European"-Sideways "New Jet" -Breakaway Possibly wheelie since that's his alt mode. --- As for gears. I would have prefered the internal robot colors have been brighter. Oh well I'll just pick up one. The bios on both of these minibot homages are spot on. For swerve it even explains his head remold faceplate as more of a chemical mask. It reminds me of voyager ratchet face. Here's hoping dead end's bio homages the g1 stunticon. Swerve and Deadend I will try to army build. Great color choices.

must have gears, no matter the cost (well i ain't goin to spend retail price on him ) i will get swerve, but that head is terrible.....i will paint a sideswipe head black and slap it on him
