Okay, I like the new starscream figure. Love the sleek alt mode. I like the fact that he's got hands and I love the new transformation.

However I really hate the arms. Especially the elbows. I used my dremel to cut away some plastic and VOILA! the elbows work the right way. Then I looked at the fingers and I thought I could cut them off and reattach the fingers with a styrene pin.

It worked and now Starscream can ball his fist at Megatron or give him the finger.

Sorry for the bad quality photo's. My camera is recharging.

Great work ! Looks really good on him. Yeah I like him too. I have 3 of them atm. Go figure hehe.

(although I am still of opinion the default elbows are anatomically correct ; it's merely his hands which are at an unnatural angle)

Hmm, you gonna finish up that custom movie 1 SS of yours btw ? It still looks very good, would probably look better finished up ;)

I still don't like this mold but I love what you were able to do with the arms and fingers. I am curious about the TFTM Starscream. That looks pretty cool.

I don't have the time or space at the moment to to any painting :(  I think that one will be finished somewhere summer 2010... :(

Small mods however are very welcome!

Nice. The hands should now hide properly in jet mode I presume. I saw a similar mod being done on the Japanese Transformers Image Board (with retractable arm guns) but that other mod requires a bit of extra work (not to mention I can't read Japanese   ). Pardon my lack of knowledge but what is a "styrene pin" and how do I go about getting one. Is it possible for you to provide a guide on how this mod is done ?

    Thanks.

    Hi Tanleeseng,
would you post the link please? I'm always interested in work-in-progress pics and other customs.

I learned the 'styrene-pin' from Micheal Fichtenmeyers website (FichtenFoo). I love reading through his WIP's and I get all inspired by his modifications and techniques. Looking at finished customs is one thing, but you never learn anything about how it was made! Anyway here's Mr. Fichtenmeyer's instructions on how to create your own rivit/pin. It's super easy!

You take a piece of styrene rod, hold it near a heat source until it starts to deform. You press it against something flat and VOILA! The other side is a bit tricky as you will be doing this near the model itself. Just take your time!

BY THE WAY... IF YOU WANT THAT OTHER SCREAMER FINISHED... SEND HIM TO ME.. HE IS TO FREAKIN SWEET TO BE UNPAINTED!!!!

I cut away at the tan part. The black part is left untouched (or just a little shaved if you mess up) I just rememberd that you need to remove the upperscrew! the toy won't loosen up if you are worried.

Thanks for the kind words Encline. But I want to finish it on my own. In hindsight it's actually a pretty easy mod too!

Thank you for the very clear explaination. Here's the link to the Japanese TF site :

    Main Page : ƒgƒ‰ƒ“ƒXƒtƒH[ƒ}[‰æ‘œŒfŽ¦”“ü‚èŒû

TF Toy Image board : Wait...

    TF Modification board : Wait...

Although I think they remove some of the pics but the pics of the final mod SS are still there.:thumb

Can someone who has attempted this show the areas specifically to shave off or cut? Could this be done with just an exacto knife? I don't have a dremmel.

Technically it could be done with a knife, though it is a lot of plastic!

Was trying this mod on my Starscream, and I'm not sure I've done it right. I carved out the section you posted, but his arm still won't bend more than a few degrees. Did I do something wrong?
