Was fiddling with my ROTF Soundwave, and while I think I've gotten the Alt mode figured out, my main gripe was that his robot head is just hanging there. And then I figured out that the middle panel on his chest can flip up to cover his head in alt mode:

Crazy. This, too, is part of the fun of early release figures: Figuring them out!

    Nice find!

I just received mine today

I fiddled around with it to see what the proper transformation should be for the alt-mode. I came to this configuration:

I put the two 'wings' up like that because I noticed the black hinges bump into the legs if you put them down. At a certain point while moving them down I noticed the legs came apart a bit. The big blue transparant part also started to move away from the gray part that has the fake head. So that would mean it's not the proper transformation.

Taking all the hinges into account on the two 'wings' I think this is the proper way to store them on the back (also using Peaugh's find of how to put in the big wing).

Finally, I think the shoulderpads should fold like this on the robot mode.

Here is my take on the flight mode. The two wings fit pretty snugly on top if have them be a bit slanted like this. And it also gives this mode some great lines.

And one more, because it works out so well:

If he's packaged in robot mode, then Hasbro could totally skip the instructions. Just package him with a sheet that says "However you want to do the transformation, it's cool with us".

I'm really digging this figure. I also love the fact you can pretty much display as you please.

Haha.. I have a feeling there is going to be some serious backlash when the "real" alt-mode is revealed with the packaging. It'll quite possibly be the most horrible alt-mode possible for this figure, and the uproar will be glorious.

I'm also really surprised we haven't seen this in a box yet....

I wished I didn't, but I, for the most part, hate the movie designs.

    *sigh*

Yeah, they kind of lock into place in that configuration.

If you're not opposed to buying prerelease figures there's this auction:

    [EBAY]300283740904[/EBAY]

Which is a pretty good price.

99.9% sure. It'd be a stunner if it ended up being someone else. No packaging or official documentation has shown up as far as I know. We are trusting that the "inside sources", that revealed this figures awhile back, are accurate when they say it's Soundwave.

That's the same seller I got it from. Looks like he lowered his shipment costs this time around. He's really fast with shipment. I got him in about a week, which included Christmas.

Early on he was said to be a satelite as Cybertronian mode. His head is about as identical as you can get with Movie designs. He has blue spots all over the place which are no doubt related to the 'sound' part of his name. In my opinion this is the best fitting mode ever for any Soundwave.

I highly doubt he's anyone else. And remember that Soundwave will change to an Earth mode eventually.

And yet another thing I found out just now is that you can spread his toes in alt-mode in such a way that you can place him right on the edge of a shelve:

I didn't even have to move the lower solar panel to make it work, since it already is sticking out forwards a bit.

I also fiddled around with a 'battle satelite mode'. This is the result of that:

I love that mold! Can't wait to get one!  I just hope that this form isn't just a five second thing like Prime's Cybertronian mode in TF1.
