    Ebay:
I bought 1 Scattorshot from Walmart and another from Target and when I looked at them side by side, I noticed that the gray plastic has different shades. One has darker gray plastic than the other. Based on earlier reviews, the lighter gray one was produced first and the darker gray one came later.

The serial number stamp on the back of the card for the lighter one is 93341 (Walmart) and the darker one has a serial number 93431 (Target). That number stamp is used by Hasbro to track when and where a particular toy was made (answered by Hasbro in an earlier Q & A session). The darker one looks more like the enhanced image on the cardback, so I guess that it is more accurate, or they just ran out of the lighter plastic.

Man, my whole reason for skipping him was the light plastic. Don't tell me I'm gonna have to buy him after-all.

I THOUGHT it looked better in person. Now I know why. I'll probably pick up the next one I see.

Is it weird that I like the lighter plastic one better?

Yes. Gray plastic that is lighter than 50% black (or some other arbitrary amount) is Cheap. Hasbro buys it in bulk along with "Allspark blue" paint. You are not a true fan if you like it.

That makes quite a difference. The light grey just doesn't coordinate as well with the colour scheme.

My thoughts exactly! The white plastic is what ruined it for me, but if he has a darker shade, I will probably pick him up anyway eventually!

Woohoo! That washed-out grey was just about the only thing I didn't like about this figure. But the one in your photo looks closer to the metallic grey used in the likes of Premium Megatron, which I think looks beautiful.

This figure just shot up in appeal considerably; I probably would have bought him anyway, but this seals the deal.

I'll have to keep an eye out for this variant, though this guy's high on my list so if I see the normal one first I might get it instead.

What is this like the 3rd or 4th lighter/darker variant we've seen in this line? The first one that comes to mind is Breakaway
