The more I think about these guys the more i think...do they really need a different mode. To me, Scorponok's alternate mode is useless because I consider his scorpion mode his robot mode. And as far as Ravage goes, he was supposed to be a missile from Soundwave and not a spaceship. Just knowing that irritates me a little about his alt mode. Just wanted to know what other's thought about this.

Ravage's alt-mode ostensibly is the pod that Soundwave shot into the atmosphere. It would be silly to launch him in fully fledged cat mode, all those dangly limbs and such are hardly aerodynamic and would throw off his trajectory if they waggled around.

Scorponok's "robot" mode is obviously tacked on.

Scorponok's 'alt. mode' seemed like Hasbro's way of saying "well he's a Transformer...he has to transform into something...but Bay doesn't have him transform into anything aside from Blackout's back, I guess...and this'll be too big for the Voyager to attach in some way...screw it, let's make the scorpion the alt mode, come up with a quick 'robot mode' and call it even. We're bound to have one or two figures bomb anyways."

As for Ravage, I'm fine with his alt. mode since I'd rather have 'reentry mode' as the alt. mode instead of what happened to Scorponok. It doesn't seem as glaring as with Scorponok, at least for me.

Seeing as, IMO, neither transformation hinders their main mode..I'd rather have them transform into something than not transform at all. Same goes with The Fallen, I rather him have some alt mode (and I actually really like his jet mode) than not.

I would have liked it if both had some good looking bot modes. :)

They should transform into each other.

Agreed. If they're not going to transform, stick them in a sideline, like Robot Replicas. If they're in the main line, they need an alt mode.

The Doctor is another example of a transformer that lacks an alt mode in the film. But I don't hear many complaints about how that was handled with Scalpel. He's really not very screen accurate at all, but at least he's a transformer.

If (for Ravage anyways) dropping the alt mode meant more money to use on articulation I would have much preferred that

Not really. He transforms once and his alternate mode is nifty. ;]

I don't care much for Animal/Creature transformers to start, so I never was a HUGE fan of Beastwars(loved the show though!)
But They are alright, the alternate modes are pretty bad. I loled at how the FAB Scoponok has a decent robot mode...

I'd rather see a Ravage with a rip-out-able spine so I could pose it with Bumblebee :p

That would be pretty funny. I'm still waiting for Deluxe Ripped-in-Half Jazz.

Actually you do see Scalpel in his alternate mode in the film, in the warehouse scene, he transforms into robot mode before going to work on Sam.
