I did the same to mine a couple of days ago. It looks great and I think this is what the designer had in mind!

Only problem is, good luck getting the treads back into vehicle position.

Looks good though, definitely an awesome enhancement to robot mode.
I see you disconnected the shovel for posing. He does look better like that. I used to do that too, but i like Transformable transformers so i just pinned it on.
He's gonna need some red paint though. Speaking of paint, a little off-topic but i saw some of your customs at the dutch convention recently. It's a shame you weren't there yourself, would've been cool to talk about painting techniques :)  .

yeah, that was a reason I wasn't too fond of doing anything other than replacing the upper screw into the joint....the arm needs to stay the exact length after the mod, or the treads won't fit back.

Actually, i meant because the elbow will keep rotating when you try to wrap the treads around.

I destroyed my Rampage simply by painting grit, grease and oil on it with Matte Black enamel and a little too much thinner. EVERY hingle and small connection softened enough to ruin the figure. I have the reains in a ziplock bad to salbage the extras and the painted pieces.

Crap, i was gonna use Tamiya. Tons of bonding stuff in there, it's bound to fuck him up then. Dye won't be an option either, since acetone is required.
Yellow plastic is extremely susceptible to tearing/breaking under stress, so you can't really blame them for using a flexible kind of plastic.

What will thin brushed enamel without softening the plastic?

You attended the dutch con? Aw too bad I couldn't come and be in awe at your customs. I would've liked to have some of our customs side-by-side.

I try to use plastic friendly paints. and never use too much of anything actually.

no i was not an attendee on the conversions, only a few (3 or 4) of my customs where there (my biggest one too - omega supreme).

i hope i could come to the german convention in viersen on july 19th, then there are many customs from me there (seekers, leader megs and some other)

i'll start peinting this guy after seeing the film, starting with grounding him in flatblack, and after looking the movie i start to paint him in red or yellow

Same story here! (Though I'm not going to the German convention) I hope to pick up customizing my figures in march 2010. I'll be in Africa for a couple of months so no custom figs for a looooong time.

Good luck painting and modding the figures!
