So, the base figure was obviously the amazing ROTF Optimus Prime. I started with a base coat of Krylon Fusion Black, followed by several stages of hand painting using various colors of Testor's Model Mater Acryl and Tamiya paints. I really wanted a worn look, so I included some rust on the metals, and I used a hot knife to make a cut in the silver area above the window, as well as cutting the Autobot symbol on the hood, and stabbing the tiny symbol inside the chest. I added some red jewels to the torso to simulate lights. The silver areas were drybrushed with 3 shades of silver. The windows were tinted using a combination of clear red Tamiya, mixed with Pledge Future to insure totally even coats. Finally a couple of Reprolabel Decepticon symbols were added to the doors, and he was finished!

I wanted to recreate the overall look from one of my favorite RID figures, "Scourge." That was the line that got me back "into" Transformers, since I'd taken a break from the 80s, so I have a nostalgic soft spot for that particular line.

Any criticism, love, hate or comments are encouraged!

    Thanks for your time!

I LOVE it.. I'm planning a black prime/scourge repaint as well, and I hope it comes out as good as this. Although mine is going to be in a very different direction, I still hope it comes out this great! The color combination you've placed on this looks so well planned, its completly official looking. Again, great job!!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words; it means alot to have the work I put into him appreciated by people that "get it".

Overall, it took a bit longer than anticipated, hmmm...about an hour or two a day for...two weeks, I think?

I had to paint all the teal-blue areas gray after the black coats so the teal would show up, then go back and trace the lines with gloss black to eliminate any sloppiness. The windows only took about 3 coats of the tamiya/Pledge mixture, which was less than I thought it would be.

    Again, thanks!

man that is very nice work the colors are well picked. Good painting. all that is missing is the Decepticon symbol on the hood of the car, where the autobot one used to be. But it still looks perfect.
