I'm pushing myself to get a better prime than the last one I painted. This round, I am using a better chroming process, "true" flames, deeper more metallic shades of red and blue. He's nearing completion, though thought I'd share some pit stops along the journey.

I posted some of these images in GD, but thought it might offer a solid timeline to the process of some key elements which will make this prime and improvement over the last one.

For the flames; I took high res. images of the truck used for prime. Traced over all the flames in Adobe Illustrator, converted the file to EPS and sized them to fit exactly the same on the Prime toy. This entailed printing a flame section on paper, measuring where it was going to go, checking how it fitted on the panel, etc, etc, etc....until perfect. I then sent the files to a sign shop nearby where the guy cut my patterns on high performance very thin vinyl (the type used for auto lettering and signs)

I weeded (removed) the areas which would get paint and air brushed on the flames. once completely dry, I removed the stencils and pinstriped silver around the flames. Because the silver was enamel and the flames and base coat were lacquer, If I messed up, I could use my clean brush with a dab of thinner on it to "erase" the mistake and do it again.

    stencils "weeded"

Thanks guys. I think I might sell sets of these vinyl stencils for $50 USD. They are quite expensive to get plotted/cut on vinyl, and they took huge amounts of time to build. If interested, please send me a PM, shipping will be "free"

I admit as "sexy" as this one will be, later in the month of July, someone else on this board and myself are collaborating our efforts and skill sets to bring what I'd like to think the "holy grail" of Optimus Primes...

sounds pathetic, but I was lying in bed thinking of customs (something I do every night) and decided how I'm gonna tackle Magnus...he'll have the car carrier, but (thanks to the ROTF design) he will wear it as armor. Yep, completely transformable car carrier.

they are very intricate, hence the higher price. Not many sign shops even have a plotter capable of cutting the corners right like "my guy" does.

unfortunately no. I mean, you technically might be able to reuse it, but it's not worth the time and touble to keep it in tact and the reuse.
