Hello everyone! After about a half of a year, I'm finally finished with my leader class Jetfire custom. It can convert from robot mode to alt mode without parts-forming and features an entirely new transformation scheme. The only thing shared with the original is the orientation of the arms in alt mode. There are numerous improvements made, including: -Reduced undercarriage kibble for a slim alt mode. -Head integrated into cockpit -Legs integrated into the engines -Better kibble management on the back in robot mode -Ball jointed head -Feather-like parts on back, resembling CGI model -Better kibble management on the arms -Ab crunch allowing for a more natural hunched posture -Engine exhaust covering shoulders -Tailfin wings in semi-accurate position over shoulders -More accurate waist sculpt -Matte finish on the robot parts contrasting with a glossy finish for the alt-mode parts -Overall, less fat looking from most angles (those thighs tho) Unfortunately, the electronics and the combining gimmick have been removed. The height also remains the same, so he doesn't pair well with Leader or MPM Optimums Prime... still too short. This mod was created using an SR-71 Blackbird 1:72 scale model, a spare Leader Jetfire, and numerous Lego parts and ball joints. By no means is this a professionally done custom, but I am quite pleased with the outcome. Hope you guys enjoy the final product and thanks to all who have been watching as I posted updates over the months. Criticism welcome. Enjoy! I'm guessing this is going to take a while because I'll have to find cheap transformers for parts in order to rebuild the hinges and such. But I do have a plan for the arms and head and all the panels that hang off his back.
Cool! Waiting for more, how big will it be? 42 cm 50 cm? (please do not take pictures Mix drone vs Jetfire) Take this picture as an idea of the feet! (is from the early mixmaster model by kingstarscream9)
It will be the same size as the Leader since I'm using a scale model that is also the same size. I wish I could make it bigger so that it was in scale with MPM Prime, though.
If you can even make him not so damn gimpy looking, I'd consider it a massive improvement. You see the images above, which are fairly close to his movie design. How do you go from that to this? vv
I think it might have something to do with all the alt mode kibble. There is so much that needs be to fixed on this thing lol
An MPM Jetfire is an exciting idea, so I'm very interested in how this turns out. He was my favourite part of ROTF.
Does anyone have any tips on cutting plastic so it has clean lines? An Xacto Knife would take a long time but a rotary tool would great ugly cuts and would parts would not line up well. I'd like to get started splitting panels on the nose and neck of the plane, but am insure of how to begin.
I'll test it on some spare parts, but I worry I'll damage it trying to cut rounded parts. Thanks for the tips!
Try using the backside (dull edge) of your exacto blade. It will "score" the plastic. Do this a few times and you will find you got through it quickly. Alternatively you can grab a jeweler's saw and some 42 tpi (teeth per inch) blades
Just a thought. Maybe pickup a robot replicas figure of Jetfire. While l doubt there is any isable parts due to the small size, it may be helpful to have a 3 dimensional model on hand to help you engineer out your thoughts.
This is something I've considered. The leader's chest is too wide and ugly, so i was hoping this ine might be big enough to use ad a replacement. It doesn't seem possible though, might just have to make due with the Leader chest and mod it to look less fat.
