As far as I know, going back to Gen.1... Jetfire originally started life as a neutral transformer. He became a Decepticon because his best friend Starscream joined the Decepticons. Both were scientists and saw the Decpeticons as the future way of all Transformers. While on a routine exploration of Earth, Jetfire got caught in an ice storm and crashed in the arctic. Starscream searched and searched for his lost friend, but never found him. Fearing the worst, he left Earth and headed back to Cybertron. When the Autobots crashed on Earth, they would eventually discover Jetfire, stuck in suspended animation inside a solid ice block. After he was freed, Jetfire teamed up with his new Cybertronian friends, not knowing that due to his Decepticon affiliation, most of the Autobots were very untrustworthy of him and felt to show no respect towards him. Unfortunately for Jetfire, since his time frozen he did not know that between his accident and his reawakening, the Decepticons had changed into an evil race. Not knowing of this, Jetfire thought it was still the right choice to become a Decepticon until overtime he reunited with his best friend Starscream, and slowly saw his best friend turn into an evil, destructive, backstabbing individual. Starscream would eventually betray and try to kill Jetfire. Jetfire tried to get Starscream to change back and leave the 'cons. This led to a disagreement between the two, and damaged their friendship. Jetfire left the Decepticons and searched for the life of good he always believed in. He joined the ranks of the Autobots, seeking redemption for making the wrong choice, and pledging to do what he originally believed the 'cons stood for -justice, truth, and peace among all cybertronians. To this day, Jetfire still wishes and hopes that a time will come where he pulls his lost friend from the darkness that is the Decepticons, and that he will finally succeed in saving the closest thing he had to a brother. ^From leaked movie info, it suggests the film will also follow with Jetfire and Stascream being former best buds. I hope to see them both battle.
Someone needs to make a custom voicebox where he says "Get the hell of my damn lawn, you lousy whippersnappers!"
Nice to finally have a look at Jetfire. I don't care for the cane though, as it make Jetfire look a bit goofy.
i love the old man angle its great the cane isnt the only thing that gives him this either the spindly legs and arms make him look like an old man also. and i can kinda make out the combined mode but all i have to say is at least we might get 2 real combiners from this toy line
More time to gather extra money for it then, I've already got a couple hundred stashed for the launch weekend.

He remindes me of BB (Big Bomber from Beast Wars 2nd) in those colors. I think the Optimus combination involves Optimus basically being mounted from behind by Jetfire - with the Jetfire robot arms locking onto Optimus arms andthe whole thing looking a bit like a gone wrong EVA pack. Those triangle pieces folded back on Jetfires hands seem to be pointing forward and out on Optimus hand - and that's Jetfire wrist cannon on the arm too.
I really like the SR-71, and Jetfire look really nice! And so far it's one of the few new movie toys that interest me. Though I'll have to wait to see if a Premium version come out. I "had" to re-buy a lot of bots when the first Premiums came out, and I really don't want to make the same mistake this time.
oh man wouldnt know about that, but its one impressive looking transformer, and im glad we finally got a good look of its face, must say those things on his face look alot better than i originally thought after we saw the legends toy and the colouring in book.
*sighs* I'll be the downer here... His vehicle mode is a mess. On top? Looks like the SR-71. On the bottom? A bunch of jibbly robot parts all arranged and smashed together. 50/50 on that one. His robot mode is definitely the clear winner here, really. He seems to be quite poseable, seems to be rather detailed, and he has his cane. Incredible. 100% on this one. His kibble is forgivable due to the combined mode, but if he was a single figure on his own, that mess would be unforgivable. Seriously. He's worth it. I'll buy him.
