Ah, yet another unfortunate sufferer of Universe Ironhide disease. That is one horrid car mode right there, folks. No hot rod is such an ugly shade of red, and even if there was, you wouldn't be caught dead driving one.

So, here's Hubcap, with a slightly better car mode. He's been painted with a method i call Colourshield, which is basically just what Wasp did to Bumblebee in Animated: Changing the outside colour, without actually changing the inside. It's the most reliable way to avoid paint rubbing issues, since there is no paint on the inside of the car shell. That's why you'll note in robot mode his shoulders are still blatantly the original red colour. On the outside, though, the part that shows in car mode, it''s been painted. Get it? ;)

Also, i cut off his ROTF Jolt homage, that thing behind his head was getting really annoying, and glued it onto his back. Transforms perfectly fine. :)

Heh, I actually bought an extra Hubcup because I agree, he does look like Chromedome.

Treadshot, that simple repaint is an improvement!

now look what you made me do. i bought one and i'm gonna repaint it with metallics like you did. i just realized something about the toy though, his legs are terrible. the thighs are too short. in any case, thanks for the inspiration!

Your painting has improved considerably since the Headmaster contest at Sector70!

It looks very nice, and yeah i see both G2 Hubcap and Chromedome in there. My suggestion to those that want both is to add some other colors to Chrome, and leave the monochrome to Hub.

Unfortunately Eisen is now tempting me to make a Tap-out from this mold. Looks like more of my money is going down the drain... :(  :lol

Anyways, thanks a lot for the comments, guys. I really like the way the chrome worked out on this guy (well, chrome's a bit of a misnomer, i didn't use alclad, just normal silver paint), and now that i know the spots where paint issues are bound to occur, Tap-out shouldn't have any of these issues.

    Thanks again.

now that the castle is above the clouds, this thread shall live again!

A1, can you post a pic from the rear? I'd like to see how you attached the hood panel to his back.

Here is a shot from the back. Pardon the dust, it's been a while since i've taken this guy out.

I've also put a pic of my Tap-Out, in case the gloss of Hubcap makes it hard to make out what happened.

Basically, the mod goes like this: There is a pin that holds the red flap behind his head on. Take out that pin (soldering iron + hammer), and remove the red flap, then replace the pin, making sure to replace the head as well. The flap will have two bits that used to go around the pin, cut them off, then glue the plate into the back, making sure it fits in car mode.

thanks A1, I'll keep it in mind when I start work on mine. it would be complicated, but I wonder if one could add holes and a pin to the "back" section of the hood, then reattach the holes from the hood backwards? that should give him neck armor instead of the hood sticking up or out... or just mangle it, I don't know
