Could he stand upright and walk on two feet or is it more like a gorilla walking?
The film depicted Devastator as quadrupedal.
Like Peter Jackson's King Kong. That's how I always imagined it.
Forget about ROTF Devastator, it's a shame with that totally different look, the moving was slow, weapon system also weak like shxx! Michael Bay totally mess the only Combiner that appear in the movie, it's terribly wrong.. I really hope some kind of design like G1, or at least 70 percent looks alike..please makes this the right way!I believe Travis Knight version will able to pleased us if he still direct for the sequel, he is the hope for us!
The whole official logic behind it, I believe, was that Devastator is so big and heavy that he can’t support his whole weight. On cybertron, where gravity is lighter, he was able to walk bipedaly, but on earth he couldn’t. That’s why like he has a hard time lifting his head when he first combines.
It's a gorilla walking.
Well, based on the size of it compared to Earth, Cybertron has a much larger mass. More mass=greater gravity. So, that is no longer a good excuse.
I know, but at the time, before cybertron was shown in DOTM, it was considered canon that the planet was smaller. I could be misremembering but I think that was the explanation in the novelization and other adaptations.
It was bigger than Earth in DOTM but smaller than Earth in TLK.
Truthfully, you don't really want a truly fast and agile Devastator or other combiner. Maybe if there's a weightless combiner battle in the middle of outer space, but not on a planet's surface where the force of gravity is much stronger.
Wanting Devastator to look more like his G1 counterpart? Sure, that's fine, but I think the idea of combiners being giant ballerina ninjas is stupid.
I do like the idea of each Constructicon member being different colors altogether rather than the same light green colour.
I've always thought that the Rotf devy is really cool but the devy balls i found very stupid. I believe he would have been more awesome if he wasn't bent over in a hunchback. He really needed more portion control in he stand up straight and arms come to knees. I bought the orginal release in the box set and i still have him. I know he's not the G1 green release I'm used to but hes devy so i had to buy him. I'm really interested in what Hasbro does with him again from the news that came out about him recently.
I hope the Studio Series Devastator is screen accurate - complete with balls!
I like how he looks in the movie, more menacing and a realistic interpretation than his G1 self...
To be fair, it had also collapsed into a collapsing space bridge and was in many pieces in TLK.
The G2 colors would have been fine too
He reminds me of a whore begging for sex, that’s how I always remember his walk.
In some ways I like ROTF Devastator a bit better than G1 Devastator. I'm rewatching G1, and I'd argue Devatator has aged a bit more poorly than some of the other stuff in the show. The overall design is cool, but I find the head a bit silly looking nowadays. And the green/purple color scheme may be a not-so-subtle copycat of the Incredible Hulk (his speech pattern makes this especially suspicious). Either way, bright green construction vehicles are a bit much to ask for, even within the realm of wanting a G1-accurate movie.
I actually like Devastator as a big, animalistic monster. A lot of people call him a 'gorilla', but I'd argue he's more of a generic alien Kaiju monster. Aside from his overall walking stance, he doesn't bear that many similarities to a gorilla.
Also, I think people take the 'wrecking balls' a bit too seriously. I hate the joke, but for all intents and purposes...it's a joke. Most of his scenes, promo images, and toys don't have 'wrecking balls', so I'd go as far as argue it's not really part of his design any more than chihuahua urine is part of Ironhide's design. It's just a cheap gag that only appears in one scene.
The movieverse were made for the general public, normal people, not this fandom who want everything to be unchanged. That's why most of the movie designs were bad received by the fans... I personally love bayformers.
Nowadays the situation changed and "everything is G1"... I am curious about where this new direction will take the movie franchise to.
