Okay, let me make sure I understand... The individual toys, such as deluxe Rampage, do NOT combine to form Devy and the toys that DO combine have no individual bot modes? Is this correct. If so, my budget just got freed up quite a bit !
Yes you are correct, but at Botcon Hasbro did say they will be bringing the Legends scaled ROTF Constructicons to the US (not that it's any big surprise).
But they're not bringing it to us until 2010, presumably so that the cheaper, more parent friendly version with individual robot modes isn't going to compete with their overpriced, action master elite, I mean supreme class Devastator.
Is the real issue drop testing? I mean, they can't make a combiner out of deluxe-to-voyager sized toys and it not be too big/heavy? If so, how small are the individuals in the box set? Surely they aren't smaller than deluxe, because that would be some seriously overpriced crap. If they aren't, why didn't they make devs out of deluxe figures? The detail going into some of these deluxes would have resulted in a really cool toy. If they can make rampage that complex at the $12 price point, they could make a really awesome devs out of deluxes (and maybe a voyager mixmaster. dev's gots a big head).

You know, I would enjoy a Deluxe-Voyager class Devy much more then I would a Steroids one. That $100 thing is so lame.
Looks like I may spring for the Legends class... legends are nice and I already have the Prime and Jetfire *combiner* (cough cough)! Thanks for your help... I feel like I've saved money!
I'm just waiting for the customizer masters to combine the individual figures into devastator...It's gonna happen and when it does i will be asking questions because i will be all over it!!!!
If Supreme Devs wasn't so... innaccurate when combined, I'd have no problem with him even without transformign limbs.
I could see them doing it with Scouts (a la the Energon combiners) but theres pretty much no way it would happen with any Voyagers in there.
OK spoiler alert read on if you dare!!!!! In the movie there are 2 sets of construction vehicles one that formed devastator the others are constroctacons they are 2 separate entities.
This is true, the set that formed Devastator never changed into robot modes, besides, while Devy was destroying the pyramid, Rampage was attacking Sam and his girl.
Movie appearance spoilers : My interpretation is that all the constructicons can do both : 1. become robots 2. combine. For the Legends Devastator, the vehicles can convert to robots also aside from combine. So such things are indeed possible. Appearances of Constructicons as robots : Scavenger clone named Demolishor Those who revived Megatron were 4 : Long Haul and 3 smaller guys : Mixmaster, red Rampage and a yellow volvo excavator with red arm ending in a black claw (probably the one sacrificed). Long Haul is 2x as long as red Rampage. Mixmaster and yellow volvo excavator are the same length and about the same size as red Rampage. Long Haul and Rampage who were looking for Sam and Mikaela. Red Rampage who came with Sam's parents who fought Bumblebee. Desert battle had Long Haul, Mixmaster, etc. Appearances of Constructicons as vehicles : Hightower and Long Haul are parked. Comes Overload, Mixmaster and Scavenger. They park in a line with Hightower and they are joined by Scrapper. So in a neat line you have Overload, Scrapper, Mixmaster and Hightower and Scavenger is behind them. Comes 2 more : Long Haul and Rampage. So you already have the 7 Constructicons all ready. Devastator starts to form. Scavenger splits his scoop arm into 2 and forms 2 shoulders just like the Legends Devastator. The $100 Devastator is not movie accurate which has upside down Scavenger with folded scoop arm at the scrotum area and also missing Overload by doubling size of Scavenger. Another Scrapper is beside Hightower. Devastator gets Hightower as left arm and adds another Scrapper as a left hand. Parked Long Haul also transforms but it is not shown which part he goes to. So Devastator can take in more than 7 Constructicons if more Constructicons are available.
