Sorry if I've missed it but does the trailer become armour like don's idea or not or do we just not know yet?
Looking at Don's original artwork, I hope they don't go with his green color scheme. It just feels wrong. I also hope they change up the body design. It just looks more like Grimlock's body to me. And of course I hope it's not gigantic as I have limited room on my shelf as is.
yeah, but the green fits the whole concept of it being military and GI Joe. In all red and blue, it might look like a circus wagon.
Too true! While I like HOS (for example) having some red and blue in him, this would just look really odd if it wasn't in green. I just wish Don got more props for this. He does amazing designs, and it makes me want to build every one. Randy!
It can be done in all green, but so that it doesn't look like a green jumpsuit. They could use lots of shades of green, grays, black, beige, etc.
hmm, that does have shoulders and a look to it as though it could be the bot form of that silhouette... dang, the colors look a mess though.
I did look at the robot mode and it doesn't contradict my point at all. Don didn't engineer a transforming toy, he drew a couple of pictures that probably served as the inspiration for this (not) Optimus Prime transforming into (not) Rolling Thunder toy. Awesome artwork, yes, but nothing that gives any merit to the talk about the toy makers owing him anything, because they don't. One can argue about if it's ok to make toys based on characters created and owned by somebody else, but that's a case for Hasbro to make, not for an individual artist.
After reading this yesterday I started to think, this could make a good "Thunderclash" or preferably "Pyro" .
Oh I can totally imagine it being difficult to convert it to red and blue without looking silly. The thing is those are Optimis Prime's colors. Doing it in military colors even for the sake of keeping to the original Rolling Thunder color scheme, will make it look like an entirely different character. To me the green makes it look like Hardhead with Optimus Prime's head, especially with (as I pointed out) the Grimlock looking body design in Don's sketches.
