MTV Movies Blog EXCLUSIVE: Robert Zemeckis ‘Buzzing’ About Second ‘Roger Rabbit’ Movie Robert Zemeckis says yes.
Ugh..no..just no. There is no way they are going to be able to get away with doing the same kind of movie they did back then. The original had such an oddly subtle mature styling to it that made it cool. There is in no way they'd be allowed to pull off a lot of that stuff now. Plus people just wouldn't react to it in the same way people did then. Then, the effects of mixing hand drawn animation with live action was something people never really saw before in the detail that was pulled off. These days, We've got all sorts of movies with overly detailed CGI characters interacting with live actors on screen. People are a lot more jaded now to be impressed by the gimmick of seeing a zanny animated rabbit in live action film.
Indiana Jones and Die Hard proved that there should be a strict time limit within which a sequel can be made. Just say no.
Does Die Another Day make Goldfinger less of a classic? Does Ghostbusters suffer for Ghostbusters 2? I trust Zemeckis at this point, so long as he doesn't get too far under the covers with the computers here. Use they to incorporate the toons with the real world, but keep the toons themselves traditional.
Wow, first Dragonball Evolution, now this, a sequel for a movie my parents scarecely remember? Hollywood is just killing classic after classic now, have they decided that the resurection of old franchises will bring big bucks (as shown by Transformers) rather than trying to create new movie ideas?
I'm not so sure that comparison really works. 007 is a long running and popular series. So was Ghostbusters.(Though maybe not quite as much as 007.) Roger Rabbit had a brief bit of fame in the 80s. After the film had its run, interest in the character pretty much died. Almost everybody remembers the film, sure, it's a classic. But it was also a one hit wonder. It was one of those films in where if you wanted to do a sequel, you'd have to do it within the same decade to expect anyone to have any real interest to see the concept continued. Kind of like what I said before, it's one of those movies that only worked for it's time. I just don't think there would be a soild audience for this film.
What animated people will appear this time? Cartman from South Park, Hank Hill from KOTH, Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin, etc?
And yet we get a sequel to another movie that didn't need a sequel to begin with. I'm hesitating at this point to go to Hollywood, buy a gun, and shoot the bastard in charge of these shitty ideas.
The older toons have to protect Toon Town from the scourge of Japanese Animation. Roger Rabbit vs. Naruto Jessica Rabbit vs. Sailor Moon Bugs Bunny vs. Ash Ketchum Make it happen.
I will pay good money to see this happen. Last I checked, anime creators don't get their panties in a twist as much as you'd expect them to if their creations are used without permission.
Roger would easily defeat Naruto, as the only thing that can kill him (or any toon for that matter) is that DIP stuff. Jessica would just B*tchslap Sailor Moon while the latter was trying to announce one of her monolouge attack names. Lastly, Bugs Bunny has ACME at his side, Pokemon are no match for the carrot munching icon.
But Ghostbusters did? Is there ANY movie that NEEDED a sequel? Is this why there was LOTS of interest in a sequel when the film first came out?
