Which is the best of this style of games? I'd like one that does both guitar and drumbs for Wii. Thanks for any advice you have!

Rock Band is a bit easier on the hands and a bit more natural in their note selections. However, it really comes down to which soundtrack you like better.

    Yuuuuup.

Might be worth seeing how the DLC stuff is working out for the different versions too if that's a factor.

Wii and DLC do not compute.

Thank you. That is very helpful as I really know nothing about these games.

After playing both I'd have to give the nod to Rock Band. Easier on the hand and the characters don't look as cartoonish. However it really comes down to the song selection so make sure you do your research first.

Rock Band was easier than GH3. I haven't really played the next set of them. I'd imagine it would be close to that though. Like most people have stated already it really comes down to which one has more songs you would like.

for wii i'd get the guitar hero wt band kit, as rock band 2 is compatible with the gh instruments, and all sequels for both games should be too. ghwt isn't compatible with any rock band instruments, so if you get either of those and want gh in the future then you'll be stuck with 2 band kits. skip rock band 1 for wii either way, it's pretty gimped.

I have GHWT but RB seems to "pull" you into the game more. I also don't like how star power in band mode for GH uses a shared meter

if it's for wii get the ghwt kit because it's compatible with both games. the rb2 kit won't work with ghwt.

My preference is Rock Band for a variety of reasons (better and more DLC, prefer its soundtrack, like the interface better, prefer the instruments). But ultimately I think it comes down to personal preference on the soundtrack. Details aren't going to matter much if you like the songs in one game more than the other.
