Seeing as how fondly many members of this board look at it, I'm considering watching through RiD. Saw some episodes as it was airing (I was 11 at the time) and I remember enjoying it, I just didn't watch religiously and barely remember it.

Now, my main concern is what version to watch. Usually, when it comes to anime, I prefer sub over dub. I think performances are typically more genuine, and scripts aren't heavily re-written to include more stupid humor than was there originally (I realize that Car Robots was fairly slap-sticky to begin with). But, the English version does have its fans, and I'm wondering if there's any convincing reason I should watch the dub. For example: Sky-Byte. Is the reason he is so well loved because of how he was adapted in the dub, or is inherent to his Japanese counterpart?

I'd like some opinions from open-minded people. If all you have to offer is "bleh subs are stooopid i wana watch teevee not reed wurds" or "sub is always better than dub praise glorious nihon-sama-tachi!", then I'm not really interested in your opinions.

    Thanks!

I think the consensus is that the dub is more loved, because Car Robots is a mediocre cartoon at best. The English RiD dub gave it a little humor and life.

But even the dub is kind of a slog to get through. The show is not really about anything and feels like a 4-episode series stretched to 50 episodes.

Both versions start off really boring, but as pointed out, RID injects more personality and humour into it. Mostly due to colourful dialogue and unique spins on the characters. Car Robots, like most of the anime TF series, is really quite boring because of how unamazing the characters are.

At least RID has some humour within the dialog.
But neither of them is my favorite so I decided to just read RID comics instead.

You're gonna be hard-pushed to find subs of CR past episode 7 anyway.

RID is tolerable, even tho some of the more wackier elements were edited out from Car Robots.

Watch RID because it's fun and by fun only Scourge, Skybyte, Prowl, Sideburn and X-Brawn are the only ones who actually were cool..

RID, it doesn't take itself seriously and it makes the whole thing far more watchable.

    Gonna say RiD.

I find the Japanese dubs to be pretty boring. At least the US ones usually takes itself less seriously.

Not much of Car Robots was actually subbed... so... there's that. You'll have a far easier time of finding RiD.
