I was just thinking, after Robots in disguise, all the main transformer lines (not Binaltech/Alternators)have been relatively unrealistic save a few, and when The movie comes out, that will probably have to change because, if they are to have a big blockbuster they should have real cars.Like the Alts. So what do you think? they should have up to date vehicles :rock  , or go back to the original 1980 forms :D  ? (by the way, does anyone know if the movie will be set in 2007 or the 1980s or the near future etc.? :huh )

The movie toys will have to be simpler than Alts. Simpler to transform anyway. They'll probably ditch the interiors too, which will be nice since that'll open up more TF schemes.

My guess is the movie toys will all be updated 2006/2007 cars, but I'd kill to have Prowl and Bluestreak remain (1981?) Datsun Z's.

It'll be nice to have new TF moulds for the movie similar to Binal/Alt toys. If the movie can help get licensing from car companies like VW it'd be great.

Most of the ALternators would fit into the movie perfectly, but Optimus Prime as a pick-up just wouldn't do, nor will Ravage or Shockwave work as cars in the context of a movie.

No, I like the idea of the bots being more of a new thing, with simpler transformations, and new ver of the old bots.

We can hope that they'll at least be 350 Z's than.

Oh, yeah i forgot, i'd like to see the Transformers as Alternators save Optimus Prime, and Ravage as well as the new Alt Rumble. The cassetes should now be CDs.

My money's on them going with current-day setting and contemporary vehicles, although I remain "optimustic" for some flashback scenes of old Cybertron forms and the 80's if they can get it to fit in the movie storyline. And like Cheebs said, I would imagine they'd go for simpler designs for movie tie-in toys. But I'm just hoping they'll release higher-qual commemorative toys for us collectors as well.

I just want the movie to be spectacular and not dumbed down. as far as the toys, im not a huge alternator fan. I like em but they are rough for the younger audience to enjoy fully

The movie is set in the present day (2005-2007 period), but will be primarily based on the original G1 characters, according to Roberto Orci, one of the writers.

At least, that's what he told me when I asked him at Don Murphy's board.

Smokescreen - yes (but he won't be in the movie)
Sideswipe - no (he f'n better be in the movie)
Silver/Bluestreak - yes (might be in movie)
Hound - yes (might be in movie)
Tracks - yes (but he won't be in the movie)
Meister/Jazz - no - needs hotter car (he'll be in the movie)
Wheeljack - yes (probably will be in the movie)
Windcharger - yes (won't be in the movie)
Prowl - no, my brother owns an RSX, and loves it, but he'll be the first to tell you that it'd make a lousy police car (he'll be in the movie)
Skids - yes (won't be in the movie)
Sunstreaker - maybe (should be in the movie - the Autobot's Mr. Blond)

If I had my druthers, this would be the cast:

    Prime - Freightliner Argosy
Ratchet - modern ambulance (nothing specific in mind)
Prowl - Crown Vic police cruiser (visualize Cyb Downshift for basic look)
Jazz - Porsche Modena or something like that (visualize Cyb Crosswise w/o the car top on the arm)
    Sideswipe - Lambo Diablo
    Sunstreaker - Lambo Murcielego
Bumblebee - modern Bug or Mini Cooper
    Wheeljack - Saleen S7
    Ironhide - modern cargo van

The cassetecons as CD's is a bad idea, cause they would guarantee shitty bot modes.

Maybe we will get Two lines for the more a more expensive alt type one for older collectors and smaller sized ones for the kids.

And don't forget all the other cool stuff such as Ice Armor Optimus Prime, Rocket Launcher Megatron, Smash Fist Optimus Prime, Flash Fire Optimus Prime, Desert Camouflage Megatron, Negative Colors Optimus Prime and Battle Damage Optimus Prime!

All of which will be remolds of the regular toys.

I completely agree with you guys that Alternator style toys would be pretty cool, even if a little simpler to transform...

Though, i'm really hoping the movie designs/toys redefine what we think of as the look of transformers. They should do something really wild!

You figure that the artists at the Studios probably want to be creative and not rehash a look that's already been done - that would be too easy for them. I'm putting my money on them doing something a little unexpected.

How that translates into HasTak making toys out of them, i'm not sure... but i'm stoked to see what happens.
