I know it's not Transformers, but hey, Hasbro stole one of their molds, so why not mention it:

"After slipping on a mask for Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire might be slipping into a giant robot for "Robotech."

After a lengthy negotiation, Warner Bros. Pictures has picked up the rights to bring anime classic "Robotech," which..."

Can't wait to see the live action designs and read all the bitching that will come afterward.

Hasbro did not steal one of their molds, it wasn't even a mold used by Harmony gold, nor Matchbox, who had the license in the mid 80's.

Bandai who had the molds from takatoku licensed the Macross molds to hasbro to use for Jetfire, there was no stealing involved whatsoever. Since hasbro had the license for that mold(VF-1S with VE-1 nose/fueselage and FAST pack armor), matchbox could not use it. It was not released in japan, possibly due to Macross toys still being sold at the time.

Hasbro had legitimate right to use that mold.

I agree w/ someone on movies.com & AICN - Tobey's too old. And I'm not sure he's quite got that... ergh - hard to describe - but can't quite see him as Rick (assuming that's who he's trying to play).

I almost hesitate to say this, in this comm - but *maybe* Shia - he can do insecure well, does "oh goody - cool robot s***" really well, and I can see him in the Lisa/Minmei/Rick triangle. Plus he's close to the "right" age.

My other thought for Rick is Matt Damon - but again, a bit old for franchise-building. Not sure of the "younger" crowd.
