Okay, so I'm a big Robotech fan, currently on a big Robotech kick, and since my roomate now has a PS2, I have one question: Is Robotech: Battlecry worth tracking down and buying/playing? And as long as I'm on the subject, any other Robotech PS2 games out there? I think I remember reading something about an Invid game once...
There's Robotech: BattleCry & Robotech Invasion for PS2 I personally prefer Robotech: BattleCry........
battlecry is an ALRIGHT game. If you're on a robotech kick, then GO for it! It'll cost you like $10 to buy it used, maybe even new! I never played the Invid game though
It depends on how much you like Robotech. I'm a moderate Robotech fan, and I thought the game was average. But I didn't think I was cheated out of my money. If you aren't a fan of Robotech at all, you might be better off passing the game.
I had both games when I had an XBox. Battlecry is a good game and does a pretty good job with the control schemes for the three seperate modes, fighter, guardian and robot. Graphics look cel-shaded and are pretty good. Invid Invasion, though, is for the purists and true fans. As a casual Robotech fan, I enjoyed the first person shooting aspect and the transformation elements (naturally), but it doesn't have as well rounded of a presentation and the lasting appeal just isn't there. The voice acting is okay. The best possible aspect of the game, the transformation from armor to cycle mode, is weak. The cycle mode is very light and has very poor physics. You bounce around like you're in a balloon. Get Battlecry, if you can find it, and don't pay more then $10 for it.
Battlecry has a lot of references in it for oldschool Robotech fans but it's riccled with obnoxious escort missions . It's an outright pain in the ass by the end. Nothing sucks more than failing a mission because every enemy in the stage homes in and starts bombarding whatever you're suposed to be escorting.
Battlecry is fairly okay. Sega made a Macross game for the PS2 that was much better, developed by AM2. You'd have to be able to play import games though.
I actually didnt know the existance of that macross game....I think Im gonna hunt that game at the import store, on the chinese mall. as for battlecry.....I need to find it....and somehow....somehow I will
I really enjoyed Battlecry. I remember when I was playing feeling like I was really in that Veritech, dodging massive amounts of missiles and gunfire, returning it, barely making it out of dogfights. It was a fun time.
I'm not much of a Robotech/Macross fan at all (but only because I haven't gotten the chance to see it), but BATTLECRY is a pretty fun game. I'd go for it.
Yeah, Battlecry is mighty neat. I finished the game a few years back and it's cool how it follows the old Macross storyline. The cel-shaded animation's kinda wonky, but I sorta get what they were trying to do with it. The gameplay and the additional character models, in my opinion, are what make the game the most fun. Ostensibly, you'd never have to buy a new Robotech/Macross Valkyrie again, if you just liked looking at 'em. The switches between Robot, Gerwalk and Plane mode can get a smidge tedious, but they DO become useful later in the game, once you get used to using them.
Damn, I've been trying to find this game for months now in the UK, I still cant find it anywhere, and the one time I did, I had no money, by the time I got back, it was sold.
http://www.gamestop.com/search.asp?Ntk=TitleKeyword&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&Ntt=Robotech&N=0 $5 for the PS2. Put your zip code in the finder. I put my zip code in to see what it was like and pretty much all the stores within a 10 mile radius have at least 1 copy.
I loved Battlecry. the missions in space were great. Really good unlockables too. The game is much better on XBox, also on PS2 the Gunpod sound doesn't play right. Also there is a nice little bug on the last few missions of your first playthrough. You get the super Valk later in the game. Normally you can only use it on the space missions, but check this out. After you get the Super Valk Armor, don't quit the game, instead select continue, you will start the next level with the super valk armor. Just keep continuing to play the rest of the game with the super valk. This is only good for your first playthrough so take advantage, after the missions have been beaten it won't work. Also some great cheats to make the game more fun: Go to the main game screen.(Where you choose single or multiplayer etc...). Hold L1 & R1 and press left, up, down, X, right, triangle, and then start: MISSMACROSS = All paint schemes MIRIYA = Both gunpods and missiles refresh faster SPACEFOLD = Gunpods refresh faster MARSBASE = Missiles refresh faster CLEAR = Clear all codes
Battlecry is fun -especially in the city levels early in the game. But, I echo the sentiment that the escort missions are too numerous and too difficult.
