Are they functional in vehicle mode? Since they are aimed low and so close to his body, I doubt that he can fire those things straight without hitting the road or himself.

    Who ya gonna call? ROADBUSTER!!!

But anyways they might be only for Robot mode, or they are guided missiles in vehicle mode.

No. They're probably just foam pieces or plastic or something.

If so, then he would've used it against Shockwave in that diversion plan instead of using his machine guns alone.

At least we got to see him using it in robot mode.

I would presume that the rocket pods rotate for firing. As for shooting Shockwave with those rockets, they probably wouldn't have penetrated his armor.

The Wreckers only attacked him directly as a diversion for the other Autobots to move to their real objective: Optimus' trailer.

Roadbuster, being battle-hardened, would be wise enough to conserve ammo; especially ammo as critical as rockets.

Surely they move when he uses them. I mean really. Bumblebee's missle pods angled for firing at different distances.

So Roadbusters rockets couldn't penetrate SW's armor, but the bullets from human guns could?????

Uh, the humans rifle fire never penetrated his armour. The human weapons never even scratched him. It's said in the movie that the vibrations from small arms fire is purely to disorient the enemy and, as demonstarted, to make way for heavy weapons/bomb experts. Only the Autobot's atatcks and the use of Q's boomsticks did they even start to hurt Shockwave.

Though the thing about the missiles not hurting Shockwave is not true. The Wrecker's own miniguns were able to at least make him flinch. Missiles wouldn't be wasted on him.

It's all about the ammunition types. Modern anti-armor weaponry is wicked beyond measure, and a high caliber APFSDS projectiles can kill even the most heavily armored tank in existence.

That being said though I see the Wrecker's firepower on Shockwave as just a distraction, nothing more. I doubt it hurt Shockwave in any way, shape, or form. More of a "Huh, what the fuck is that shit" kind of reaction coming out of Shockwave.

At the very least it did enough to warrant him feeling he needed to shield himself with a car.

Purely a reactionary measure more than any real sense of need, I think. I remember when my friend just came back from Iraq he heard a very loud truck backfire, and the first thing he did was go prone. A purely reactionary measure.

I equate Shockwave's reaction to be exactly that...he's in combat and he reacts according to his training, which is to get safe, even though what was being fired at him couldn't harm him at all.

Just for fun, I've got two videos to show on just how deadly modern anti-armor weapons have become. The first is the Raufoss Mk.211, an infantry portable miniature HEAT style round: Raufoss Mk.211

And here's a video about why Marine tanks were so good against the 'Cons in ROTF:

That's nice. But he was eventually harmed by gun fire from the Wreckers, so...

I couldn't really tell you why that happened. The Wrecker's guns are low caliber, a 7.62mm minigun for ROadbuster, and old ass M1919 Browning .30 cals for Topspin. Leadfoot is armed with a 7.62mm minigun as well, and he's got a pair of M240B GPMGs that also fire 7.62mm. 7.62mm and 30.06 both do not have the kind of ballistics necessary to even threaten armor, so I write it off as Michael Bay Bullshit.

EDIT: Just noticed that Roadbuster has a pair of M249/FN Minimis on the hood also, which are 5.56mm. 5.56mm would have absolutely zero chance in penetrating Shockwave's armor.
