Well, let's see what the real FX awards does, because they did reward the first Transformers movie. But in my opinion, I'm just more impressed with the Apes than I am with the Transformers.

Well, Crazy-Old-Fart Ebert called DOTM "visually ugly", he must have been wearing his glasses upside down.

    Seriously? What a dick.

I, on the other hand, had multiple eyegasms.

Saw it today. Great movie. Visual effects were much more impressive than DOTM

How the fuck did all this find its way to Ebert bashing? Are we still that insecure over the Transformers movies.

And what "real" fx award was the first Transformers movie awarded?

Who cares about awards? Bay got a fuck-ton of money from DOTM, I don't think he'll give a shit if he doesn't win an award.

Yeah, I have no idea why people are quoting Roger Ebert, and the awards show I'm talking about is the Visual Effect Society Awards Show, it's supposed to be awarded by and to the people who bring in the visual effects into movies.

They seem to be pretty fair, and have awards for everything. From movies, to games, to TV shows, to commercials!

Maybe we should apologize for derailing the thread for our senseless hate fueled Ebert bashing.

If I can look at a monkey on a movie screen and say "that's a fake-ass monkey" then I consider that poor special effects.

I looked at King Kong a ton (I mean, it was a three-hour-long movie) and there were moments when I thought he was completely real. That's good special effects.

This was a very good movie, btw. The special effects on Caesar were just unimpressive. Some of the other monkeys looked good though.

DOTM will win in $$$$ but POTA will win the award. I luv me some transforming cars and trucks, but Cesar and crew pwns Optimus in co in terms of who looks the realest! Sorry. But its truly a win/win for the fans! We got to see both of these great movies in one summer!

I saw it last Tuesday, and I loved it. I honestly wasn't expecting it to be that good, but it's the best movie I've seen all summer.

Also, bonus points for Rodney McKay being in it. :thumbs2:

Saw it last night and was blown away. The visual effects were extremely impressive, and I honestly feel that an Oscar win is deserved. Don't get me wrong, DOTM had spectacular effects work, but having seen it twice before, I was more taken aback by how intricate and developed these apes were.

Very impressed with this movie. Some solid performances, particularly from John Lithgow and Andy Serkis (and the whole animation team) as the ape Caesar.

Powerful scenes, and they also managed to make enough references that it didn't feel totally disconnected from the previous films. I thought the ending could've been stronger.
The ape riot seemed kinda small scale compared to some blockbusters, or recent situations around the world, but it would've stretched credibility too far to increase the scope of it.

The original is still a better film in many respects, but this is a worthy successor, and lays the groundwork for future films that I hope will get the green-light.

Saw it for the third time today. I think they should get the visual effects Oscar just for the work on Maurice the orangutan

Damn, it was a stinkin' good movie about damn dirty apes. I was rooting for Caesar and the other apes at the final fight on the bridge, and I loved the story of Caesar's growth from a cute playful chimp to a battle-worn, intelligent human general in chimpanzee skin - especially when he gains dominance over the apes. This is the first movie of 2011 that I truly feel should have a go at Best Picture, other then maybe Harry Potter.

Does this movie bridge the uncanny valley on Caesar or was he not a human being? i mean the Mocap on him and the apes were amazing and believable as they had no dead eyes.
