About a month ago I stubbed my toe pretty bad. Hurt like hell for a day or so. Flash forward to now, and the nail is turning white and slowly separating from the bed underneath - it's going to fall off.

I've never lost a finger/toenail before - how much is this going to suck? Should I just grip and rip?

    Pics on request.

Get a pair of pliers and do a shot, grit your teeth and yank away!

It's gonna have to come off...

Personally, I'd just let it go. Less risk of bleeding and discomfort later.

It's a toenail. I wouldn't worry. You might need to wear some looser fits shoes for a while until it stops hurting, though.

I don't like toenails. Or any nails. That's why my house is made of frozen treat sticks and glue.

I tried saying that ten times fast and ended up at "fresh titties".

Listen, before you do anything suggested in this thread, ask your doctor what to do and do what he says

    Okay, story time.

I dropped a large pickle jar right on my big toe when I was 9 years old. It was about late-December something. The thing was cracked almost entirely through and bleeding. But the nail was still mostly on.

A couple weeks later, while I was in the Philippines, what was left of the nail by then fell off.

Moral of the story? It'll fall off. Let it.

And yeah, the toenail grew back. Thicker, too.

I'm sorry for your loss, my sincerest condolences.

it's so sad this had to happen just before Christmas. I'm sure its fellow toenails mourn its abrupt passing. never forget!

I have stubbed a toe and actually in doing so ripped the toenail off. Not very fun but it could have been much worse.

I stubbed my toe pretty bad and it turned blackish purple. I just left it alone. Eventually one day it just fell off on it's own. The weird thing is how it grow in afterwards- stronger, and better, but weird looking.

I actually did that several months ago, bent the whole nail at a 90 degree angle, couldn't get my feet in my shoes for work that day, had to call in.

Yanked the nail out a few days later, then it eventually grew back in fine.

If you think it is gonna hurt to yank it, have a few drinks first.

    Points to "similar threads" listing.

Oh and whatever you do, don't let a gypsy get a hold of it when it falls off.
