Ernest Gary Gygax, creator of Dungeons and Dragons, died today in his home at the age of 69.

If a mod can move this to the correct forum that would be great.

Gary Gygax dies and Brett Favre retires on the same day.

This is a sad day for both nerds and jocks.

    Aw man. :(

I found the article on CNN.

I never realized he was that devoted to D&D after all these years. I wish I could have met him.

That sucks. He should have rolled for more health.

Srsly, though - bummer. I played some D&D when I was a kid and remember reading his bio.

I was shocked at this news. I had always wanted to meet the founder of my other hobby (tabletop RPGs, D&D in particular). I would have liked to shake his hand and thank him for creating a new medium for our imaginations. It is amazing to think that an insurance salesman from Wisconsin could have influenced publishing and entertainment as much as he did.

Without him, you also wouldn't have WoW or Everquest.

He will be missed. I hope Hasbro/WOTC puts up something on their website to honor him.

    Shalom, Mr. Gygax.

Played a lot of D&D back in my teenage years. Gary created so much great stuff for that game. I wonder if we would have the miniature games we have today without Gary Gygax putting D&D in the mainstream. Glad to here he was still involved in gaming so close to the end. RIP.

Sad news. I've been playing D&D off and on since I was in high school. Gygax really created a game that's endured.

I should flip through my 1st Ed book today as a tribute.

May his soul rest easily on whatever plane his alignment dictates it travel to.

That is, until some cleric gets to a high enough level to cast true ressurrection.

    Somebody cast Raise Dead!

Yeah, though, this is a shame. He was a pioneer, and I love his stuff. I know he wasn't involved with the line for some time now, but he started something I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of. RIP and all that...

His own aorta sent him on.
