Wow.... I wasn't his biggest fan but without him we never would have had Robotech and Akira might have taken forever to get to the US.

Hats off to you Mr. Macek. May you rest in peace.

Wow that was pretty sudden. Probably a good thing he did that interview on AnnCast a few months back as it's the last record of what he was really all about (in his words at least)

    RIP.

Whatever reservation that some may have of him, we have to admit he did brought Macross (in the form of Robotech) to the western world & indirectly introducing us to the wonderful world of Macross/hi-quality & top notch Japanese anime.

    RIP :rip .

Robotech and Totoro were my introductions to the works of Kawamori and Miyazaki - two animation pioneers I respect the most. Sad to see him go.

Hadn't heard of him before, and I've not seen any of the shows listed among his credits, but I do recognize their names. Sounds like a pretty influential person in the anime world.

Like it or not, bridging three different series to make one for syndication purposes was a ballsy move and it arguably panned out successfully. Rest in peace, Mr. Macek.

I've always preferred the original Macross to Robotech, but I still gave him respect for bringing it over here in the first place. He will be missed.

    RIP

Thank you for introducing Robotech to me, even though I only have slight memory of it.

While i've got nothing but scorn for allot of the end product, i've got respect for what the dude did for the business and i'm not going to dump on him for doing stuff that was mostly necessary in the market conditions of the day.

I've hardly ever really thought of the man. I definatly knew of him, but Robotech was such an important series. Not only because it brought Macross to the US, it introduced Japanese Animation to a great number of people 13 years before it exploded in '98 with Pokemon. He made a real contribution to our culture. And, even though there were times I thought of him as a dick, I always respected him for that.

After reading early this morning of his death... I felt a great loss.
