I really like the new Windblade, but she really needed paint. Primed the painted spots by hand, then painted with Tamiya, lined with a Graphix marker, and finished with some Pledge with a bit of Tamiya Flat Base for topcoat.

I wasn't too fond of her new scabbard and sword, so I filed down the tabs from a spare Gen Windblade's scabbard so it would slot into her leg.

Also means she gets the nice translucent sword.

But why stop at one sword, when you can have a Buster Sword too? It came from a pack of Kotobukiya swords, and a little filing to the top of the sword handle, then some sanding to a bit of a crazy straw, and tada! Now Windblade can have two swords.

Oddly enough, the peg under her nosecone wasn't quite 5mm, so I drilled that out a bit and now she can also have a gun! Taken from Gen Blitzwing I think, works better with a deluxe than a voyager imo.

I can also peg the scabbard in for vehicle mode...which I forgot to photograph. Finding a metric drill bit was surprisingly difficult in my area, but Amazon had me covered. Now I can add 5mm ports to anything!

For comparison, here's my finished Windblade with an unpainted one who will eventually become Maxima

And here she is with my painted Gen Windblade:

There's good and bad about both, but overall I like the new RiD Warrior Windblade more.

Wow, besides the PITA AR autobot symbol, I actually like it better than the gens version. Very nice ^^

Nice. I'm planning on doing the same with mine, but I'm going to maybe fill in the circular home in her chest, after I remove the sticker. Once I paint that, I'll add a new repro Autobot symbol sticker.

If I didn't know any better I'd say you'd just taken a Takara Windblade and added Gundam Marker. Since I actually own one I know you didn't, but its scary how close it is. You even added extra paint in some areas like the arms; they don't have blue on either version (I think, don't own the Hasbro one).

Did something similar to mine. Amazing how such a bland figure that I think a lot of people will pass over suddenly because amazing and dynamic with some paint apps. She replaced my Generations WIndblade in my collection and fits perfectly with the classic figures.

Wow. That paint does yield a much better figure than her original release.

Curious to see how the TR version compares to the G3 and RiD versions now...

Quite nice. I did similar but not the same with mine. If anything, it's really interesting to see how people choose to customize RiD'15 Windblade since there's a lot of options for variance in trying to match the show version or doing their own unique touches. Out of curiosity, what red did you use?

I'd have to wonder how feasible it'd be to swap torso between the Windblades... Do either really "transform" much at all?

They both have fairly different torso setups so I can't see a swap working without heavy modding.

What do you think you'll use to fill in the gap? Would regular putties stick to the plastic? It's different from Gundam plastics, so I'm never sure what will / won't stick.

Thanks! I think one of the pictures I used as reference this time was of the Takara version, so if I managed to make you do a double take, I dare say it was a success :D  I wanted to add more blue to this one, my Gen Windblade didn't get much blue and even though she looks better than she did out of the box, she still looks a little bland.

She had been standing on top of my display case with some non-TF figures while she waited patiently for paint. I can totally see why folks who don't paint their figures would pass her by tho, she looks good, but not great out of the box. Now that I've got her finished, she's joined my CHUG crew too!

    You totally should!

I was tempted to go for closer to the show version, but I couldn't find any good pictures. The red is Tamiya Red :)

The proportions are a lot different in the torso (and everywhere else). It would take a lot of work to transplant parts between the two, I think I saw somebody working on doing just that tho, so it's gotta be possible.

I'm not sure, but I'm sure someone else already repainted this here. They might have used some sort of putty and then sanded it down maybe?
