Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of TRANSFORMERS – ROBOTS IN DISGUISE in this all new story, re-telling the history of the Transformers line that arguably started the franchise’s climb back to dominance nearly 16 years after its conception.

Forget everything you thought you knew about the line many know as “RID”. Featuring fan-favorite characters like OPTIMUS PRIME, PROWL, X-BRAWN, SIDE BURN, MEGATRON, SKY-BYTE, SCOURGE, and characters from the ROBOTS IN DISGUISE Universe not seen in the cartoon or one-shot comic such as STORM JET, MIRAGE GT, DREADWIND & SMOKEJUMPER, OBSIDIAN, SKYFIRE, WIND SHEER, BRUTICUS and more, this is the story that all ROBOTS IN DISGUISE fans have been waiting for!

    Synopsis:

MEGATRON is leading his PREDACON forces to the planet known to the TRANSFORMERS as GAIA. They have detected an energy signal belonging to a TRANSFORMER, and MEGATRON hopes it is the fabled FORTRESS MAXIMUS from the TRANSFORMERS’ civil war from millions of years ago. With the power of FORTRESS MAXIMUS, the PREDACONS could re-take CYBERTRON and finally defeat the AUTOBOTS. Back on the planet CYBERTRON, the AUTOBOT High Council takes notice of the PREDACONS’ activity and re-activates their great warrior from the civil wars, OPTIMUS PRIME, and dispatch him and a group of AUTOBOT warriors to GAIA.

Unbeknownst to both sides, the DECEPTICONS, long exiled from CYBERTRON, send a scouting party to GAIA to see what all the commotion is about. The DECEPTICON commander, MEGA-OCTANE, hopes to find a new source of ENERGON to fuel the DECEPTICONS’ goals of universal domination and to exact revenge on the PREDACONS who exiled them and the AUTOBOTS who allowed it to happen.

But waiting in the shadows to stop the DECEPTICONS is the exiled AUTOBOT known as ULTRA MAGNUS, who commanders an elite group of exiled AUTOBOTS known as THE WRECKERS. While tracking the DECEPTICONS to GAIA, THE WRECKERS and ULTRA MAGNUS will come face-to-face with fate, while ULTRA MAGNUS will attempt to fulfill what he believes to be his own destiny.

    ------------

Author notes: Well, here we go again! I've always had a fondness for the ROBOTS IN DISGUISE line, as it was the first Transformers line I ever completed 150%, including some rare figures from the CAR ROBOTS version in Japan. I always felt that the ROBOTS IN DISGUISE line was neglected ... we had some of the *BEST* Transformers toys ever created, and yet we got a crappy translation of a campy Japanese "anime" show, and that was it. I don't even consider the Dreamwave one-shot comic to count for anything.

When IDW first got the license for the Transformers comic books, myself, another individual that will remain nameless, and Don Figueroa actually pitched a proposal to IDW for a ROBOTS IN DISGUISE comic ... and we were more or less told that they'd rather do a "re-telling" of the story, and that Hasbro wouldn't be too cool with going back to a line that is no longer current. Given that now such characters like STARSCREAM, BUMBLEBEE, and SOUNDWAVE are major mainstays in every Transformers story, this is probably the closest that I'll ever get to a ROBOTS IN DISGUISE story.

I've spent 2 weeks fleshing out a "back-story" to the story I'm about to write. Every character, in every situation that they're in, and every faction has a backstory as to WHY they're in that situation.

This will be updated as I write the chapters and edit them, etc. My goal is to create the ultimate story for ROBOTS IN DISGUISE fans, and who knows, maybe it'll inspire someone to draw up some cool images that I hope to describe.

Enjoy the story as it updates! :)

EDIT: Unless noted otherwise, all images in the "character descriptions" are from WWW.RIDFOREVER.INFO, a sister site of TFW2005.COM. If you haven't checked it out, like, ever, then you need to do so!

SPOILER! Character bios are written through Chapter 1 of the on-going story.

    Autobots

    OPTIMUS PRIME
OPTIMUS PRIME is the commander of the AUTOBOT forces, though he is not the all-mighty authorative figure. The power of deciding laws and the overall decision-making powers belongs to the AUTOBOT HIGH COUNCIL, which is located in NEW IACON on the planet CYBERTRON. Having detected PREDACONS heading towards the planet known as GAIA, the AUTOBOT HIGH COUNCIL awakens OPTIMUS PRIME out of stasis and sends him to GAIA with a squadron of AUTOBOTS to intercept the PREDACONS. But of what importance is GAIA to the AUTOBOT HIGH COUNCIL, and why awaken the great hero from the TRANSFORMERS civil war?

    SENTINEL PRIME
When OPTIMUS PRIME was put in to stasis after the end of the GREAT WAR, it was EMIRATE MALFURION who convinced the AUTOBOT HIGH COUNCIL to elect SENTINEL MINOR to become the next PRIME ... SENTINEL PRIME! In charge of the elite SPYCHANGER team, SENTINEL PRIME heads to GAIA to retrieve the MATRIX OF CONQUEST from the PREDACONS. But what do he and EMIRATE MALFURION want with the MATRIX of CONQUEST? Only time will tell...

    SPYCHANGER MIRAGE
MIRAGE has worked alongside SENTINEL PRIME since the beginning. The two have formed a close friendship over the centuries that have passed. A sharp-shooter by trade, MIRAGE can strike, seemingly invisible, from miles away with deadly accuracy. As the leader of the SPYCHANGERS, he now travels with SENTINEL PRIME to retrieve the MATRIX OF CONQUEST from the PREDACONS. But MIRAGE doesn't know the whole truth ... or does he?

AUTOBOT BROTHERS - PROWL, X-BRAWN, SIDE BURN
The three AUTOBOT BROTHERS were sent to GAIA ahead of OPTIMUS PRIME to, for what they understood was, excavate and explore the planet for research. Little did they know they were about to join in an all-out war against the PREDACONS and DECEPTICONS! The oldest brother, X-BRAWN, speaks softly but packs a big punch! PROWL is the more serious of the brothers and is often scolding the youngest brother, SIDE BURN, who is almost always getting in to trouble. Their destiny is something more than anyone, save one, could ever predict...

    Predacons

    MEGATRON
The leader of the vicious PREDACONS, MEGATRON rules with an iron fist ... or rather, a techno-organic fist! Long ago MEGATRON was the leader in a rebellion against the DECEPTICONS during the civil wars on CYBERTRON. The result of drastic experiments was a more ENERGON-sufficient type of warrior ... a PREDACON. The once-mighty DECEPTICONS were splintered in two, and the PREDACONS were victorious. However, OPTIMUS PRIME and the AUTOBOTS defeated the PREDACONS in the end, and the PREDACONS fled CYBERTRON. But now MEGATRON has detected an energy signal that may be from a TRANSFORMER on the planet of GAIA ... and MEGATRON thinks it could belong to FORTRESS MAXIMUS, the AUTOBOT super-weapon from the civil wars. He will stop at nothing at his goals to conquer CYBERTRON and destroy the AUTOBOTS once and for all.

    CRYOTEK
A top-ranking PREDACON in MEGATRON'S army, CRYOTEK is incredibly intelligent but carries himself with an almost mysterious demeanor. It is CRYOTEK who appears to be all-knowing in regards to the situation on GAIA, as well as the loyalty of MEGATRON'S own warriors - as demonstrated when CRYOTEK applauds MEGATRON for destroying the traitor TERRORSAUR, even though MEGATRON had no idea of the PREDACON'S treacherous intentions. Standing next to MEGATRON, it is CRYOTEK who helps assemble the PREDACONS to head to GAIA, but CRYOTEK'S own true intentions have yet to be revealed...

    SKY-BYTE
A loyal PREDACON warrior to MEGATRON. SKY-BYTE takes an artful approach to his battles, often writing haikus to commemorate special events as they happen. He awaits orders for his first mission.

GAS SKUNK, SLAPPER, & DARK SCREAM
The skunk known as GAS SKUNK is a hateful PREDACON who finds absolutely nothing cheerful. He hates his life, he hates his alternate mode, and he hates the planet GAIA. The PREDACON frog warrior is SLAPPER, who finds himself incredibly depressed - his alternate mode is hideous and to top it off he now has warts and has puss leaking everywhere. He secretly wishes he could return to the DECEPTICONS, but fears MEGATRON's wrath too much to risk it. The bat PREDACON is that of DARK SCREAM, an assassin by trade. He is over-confident in his abilities but has no problem sharing his prowess with any 'bot that will listen.

    Decepticons

    MEGA-OCTANE
A general for the DECEPTICONS at the start of the civil war against the AUTOBOTS, MEGA-OCTANE is a war-tested veteran. When MEGATRON transformed himself in to a PREDACON and attempted to get all DECEPTICONS to follow in his ways, it was MEGA-OCTANE who stood against MEGATRON and started the civil war between DECEPTICON and PREDACON. Though defeated by the PREDACONS, MEGA-OCTANE took the remaining DECEPTICON forces and fled from CYBERTRON to an undisclosed location, to await a time when they could return and conquer CYBERTRON and destroy both AUTOBOT and PREDACON alike. Having detected the PREDACON advancement on GAIA, MEGA-OCTANE has sent a scouting party to determine whether or not the time to strike back is now...

    MOVOR
One of MEGA-OCTANE'S personal soldiers, a COMBATICON, MOVOR is instructed to travel to the planet GAIA and observe planet-wide activities while in orbit. While in orbit, MOVOR destroys a human space shuttle and takes it form.

    [IMG][IMG]
    SKYFIRE & WIND SHEER
The DECEPTICON assassins have arrived on GAIA and, with the help of MOVOR, make their way towards the planet's surface, with the goal in mind to find out what the PREDACONS are doing on the mudball of a planet.

    The Wreckers

    ULTRA MAGNUS
The brother of OPTIMUS PRIME, the current whereabouts of ULTRA MAGNUS are still unknown. But wherever he is, it is guaranteed that he will track down OPTIMUS PRIME and take the one thing he believes his rightfully his.

    GAIA
The planet GAIA received its name from the TRANSFORMERS millions of years ago during space-exploration. At the time of its discovery, the planet was void of any intelligent life, having only plant-life with a mostly carbon atmosphere. Millions of years later, however, the planet is now full of organic life, including human beings. As the TRANSFORMERS all race towards GAIA, they have no idea that they're about to bring their age-old war back to the forefront and the cost could be the entire planet of GAIA itself!

Yes! A RID story! *Sits waiting patiently for more.*

But I see Scourge/Black Convoy is not leader of the Decepticons, hmm...curious.

Btw, I was one of the people that voted for a RID comic in Dreamwave's poll way back when...

Sorry it's taken a couple of days, I've been trying to polish the first chapter so that it's a perfect introduction to a story that, once it gets a few chapters in, you'll notice has been going on for awhile and we're just jumping in to the middle of it (though at a nice "beginning" point).

And Black Oracle ... you and I have known each other for YEARS. You know I'm going to give Scourge plenty of love :)  He just has to have a KICK-ASS origin story, and then KICK-ASS introduction, and before he can become a focus of the story, the other characters have to be loved and/or hated so his interaction with them is more meaningful ;)

    Chapter 1 – “Predacon Rising”

A laser blast flew past his head, the heat from the laser causing the metal alloy to singe briefly as the laser connected with a generator behind him. The ensuing explosion caused his audio receptors to go out for a moment as he could feel the heat from the fire against his back. Smoke and debris flew in front of him and as the smoke cleared he could see the objective standing a few clicks in front of him – a Predacon soldier, an enemy of Cybertron.

Optimus Prime took aim with his blaster and fired. The laser from his pulse cannon made a cracking sound as it exploded from the barrel, the blast seemingly hurling through the air in slow-motion as it connected with the chest of the Predacon. The explosion on the Predacon’s chest sent metal and organic goo flying through the air as the Predacon, his life slipping away, fell backwards and onto the ground.

Optimus Prime walked towards the dying Predacon, his pulse cannon aimed at the Predacon’s head as his life slowly slipped away. The science of the Predacons was still unknown – somehow they were able to combine Cybertron alloy from Decepticon warriors and infuse them with an organic compound, creating half metal, half organic Transformers. Whether or not these organic Transformers had a spark was still unknown, as it seemed that they died slowly, their life force slipping away rather than a spark joining the Matrix. The Predacon scowled at Optimus Prime as it coughed up some sort of purple residue, apparently a blood-like substance to these creations, and slowly went in to a form of stasis-lock. Rather than explore the scientific possibilities, Optimus Prime chose to fire his weapon at the Preadcon’s head, ending its life before the long-enduring session of pain set in.

This is the war that Optimus Prime was given control of by the Autobot High Council and his creator and mentor, Alpha Trion. At first it was simple – apprehend Decepticons and bring them to specialized imprisonment camps. If necessary, use excessive force, and any Decepticon casualty would be seen as a costly war measure and not something punishable in military tribunals. Optimus Prime wasn’t necessarily okay with that idea, but he understood what many did not – the Autobots were fighting for their very lives, and the Decepticons weren’t taking any prisoners.

But something changed after the Fortress Maximus incident. The Decepticon’s commander, Lord Straxus, had undergone a transformation after a vicious battle left him physically scarred – he had turned himself in to a walking exo-skeleton of a warrior and started calling himself Megabolt, and intended to combine with Fortress Maximus and use the Autobot’s battle station as a weapon against them. Alpha Trion safe-guarded the Fortress Maximus project and overloaded Straxus’ circuits, leaving him on the verge of death after the attack. A young, upstart Decepticon named Megatron then wrestled control away from the top general Mega-Octane and created these Predacon warriors … and Lord Straxus, or Megabolt, went missing.

For a brief time the Autobots were spared from battle – the newly formed Predacons and age-old Decepticons had entered in to a civil war of sorts, with the Predacons ultimately winning and driving the Decepticons from Cybertron. It was then that Megatron launched full-out campaigns against the Autobots and continually succeeded in defeating them. But with project Fortress Maximus ready to go, the Predacons were now on the verge of total collapse and defeat, and Optimus Prime was given charge to finish eradicating the threat as the Autobots struggled to rebuild the planet Cybertron.

“You are Cybertron’s greatest hero,” Alpha Trion had told him. “The future of this planet, of the Autobots, rests on your shoulders.”

Optimus Prime looked at the dead Predacon, the purple liquid pouring from the open wounds, and Optimus began to think that maybe war itself is the problem, not the feuding factions. He had ended the lives of countless Decepticons and Preadcons turing the centuries of fighting and nothing had changed – the enemy would always regroup and push forward and lives would always be lost. Why is it that peace is always sought after but never given a chance to flourish?

As Optimus pondered this question, a bright flash of light blinded his optics, causing him to cover his face with his hands. He heard a voice inside of his head echo: “We need him! Bring him out of stasis!”

    ----------------------------------------

In the far depths of space, beyond any instrument’s measure, there is a planet that exists without any light from a star – the inhabitants thrive on the darkness and use the void of life to motivate themselves to the darkness inside of themselves. This is the homeworld of the remnants of the Predacon army, the planet they have named Tripedacus, and for the past few days, the entire planet has been preparing itself for a full-scale assault.

At the heart of Tripedacus rests a tower created of the remains of fallen enemies – some organic, some metallic – and inside the tower rests the Supreme Lord of the Predacons, the self-appointed ruler named Megatron, former conqueror of Cybertron. His throne, a trophy of his greatest victories, is made up of organic bones and pieces of ancient Autobots that he destroyed long ago. The Predacon ruler sat at his throne, his clawed fingers slowly tapping the arm-rests, his red optics glaring out in to the darkness.

“Mighty Megatron?” whispered a raspy voice. Walking in to the very dim lighted room stood a red and blue organic Predacon warrior with wings – a flying Predacon, which was somewhat rare amongst Predacons – and in his hands was a computer disc.

“You may enter, Terrorsaur…” replied Megatron with a deep growl, obviously not pleased with the Predacon’s disturbance of his chambers.

“I…I’m sorry to bother you but…uh…the data you requested…sir…my Lord…it is…uh…ready,” Terrorsaur said, his voice trembling with fear. To upset Megatron in these dark days would most certainly mean death. The rumor amongst the camps was that Megatron devoured any Predacon that annoyed him or no longer fit in to his future plans. It was an easy way for the Predacon ruler to absorb energon to safeguard himself as the remaining strongest Predacon, so that none could usurp his throne.

“Tell me,” Megatron said, taking a breath, “What do the reports show?”

Terrorsaur looked at the disc, then to Megatron, and once again back to the disc. He began to sweat, a side-effect of being half organic, and he continued to stumble over his words.

“The…uh…the reports show, um, sir,” he stuttered.

“Stop wasting my time and tell me the information I seek,” growled Megatron, his clawed fingers no longer tapping the arm-rest but instead digging in to it, a sign that Terrorsaur was annoying him.

“The scans show…uh…a powerful energy reading on the planet you…um…requested to be, uh, scanned,” replied Terrorsaur, much better than the first two exchanges, but still stumbling and trembling with fear. “Do you…uh…wish to examine the, um, disc?”

    Megatron smiled.

“The scan that you have mentioned … did it specify the origin of the signal? What type of energy did we scan, exactly?”

“It appears to be, uh, Transformer in origin…sir…my lord,” said Terrorsaur, becoming slightly calmer than before.

“Excellent job Terrorsaur,” said Megatron, smiling enough that his fanged teeth could be seen in the dim lighting. He raised his left arm and motioned to Terrorsaur. “Come here, my loyal warrior. You have served me well and deserve to be rewarded for your loyalty during these stressful, turbulent times…”

Terrorsaur slowly walked towards Megatron, eventually leaning forward to kneel.

“I live only to serve you,” Terrorsaur vowed, lowering his head. “I humbly accept whatever, um, award you wish to, uh, bestow upon me…”

Megatron rose from his throne and took a step towards Terrorsaur.

“Your original name is not Terrorsaur, is it?” asked Megatron. “You were once a Decepticon, yes, a valiant air lieutenant for Straxus, were you not?”

Terrorsaur raised his head, somewhat confused at his master’s pondering.

“Yes,” he stated quietly. “I was the Air Lieutenant of the Decepticon Empire, and I was known as Starscream…”

“Ah yes,” Megatron said, his toothy-smile showing in the light. “I remember … you were instrumental in my takeover of the Decepticons.”

    Terrorsaur was silent.

“If it wasn’t for your cowardice act of self-preservation in the end that fool Mega-Octane may have been the one to take over, and the Predacons may have never risen…” growled Megatron, his smile now turning more to an annoyed look. He rose from his throne. “Observe! You are about to witness something that very few have ever lived to see…BEAST MODE!” he shouted. His arms out-stretched, his body seemed to flip over, his legs transforming in to the necks and heads of two twin dragons, his arms becoming legs and his chest morphing itself to his new form. There, standing in front of Terrorsaur, stood Megatron in his Twin Dragon Mode, something very few have ever lived to see.

“Tell me!” hissed both of the dragon heads of Megatron. “Are you frightened, Terrorsaur?”

Terrorsaur fell backwards, landing on his back while using his hands to brace himself. He tried to scurry backwards but was unable to grab on to the rather slick floor.

“I live to serve…!” Terrorsaur stuttered, his face a look of extreme terror.

“I am not a fool, maggot!” hissed the two dragon heads of Megatron. “You betrayed your own kind to further your own cause! Your reward, oh loyal Terrorsaur, is to become a part of me! Prepare yourself for deactivation!” And with that, Megatron’s dragon form lunged forward, one head grabbing a leg of Terrorsaur and the other head diving in to his chest, biting and tearing apart the organic and metal alloy components, chewing them. Purple liquid poured on to the floor as Terrorsaur screamed out in pain. The screaming lasted only for a moment as one of Megatron’s dragon heads quickly snapped its jaw around Terrorsaur’s head, the teeth sinking in to his organic flesh and crushing his head. Within moments all that was left were red pieces of metal on the floor and a large amount of the purple blood of the trans-organic Predacon.

From the corner of the room came the sound of clapping, as a blue armored Predacon slowly stepped in to the light.

“Most impressive,” he said slyly, a toothy smile across his face. “The intelligence report on Terrorsaur did show some slight tampering with the data report that he had encrypted on to the disc, most likely to detour you long enough for his own agenda to take form. The fact you were able to pick up on that is remarkable.”

“Cryotek!” hissed Megatron. “Do not bore me with your observations! Terrorsaur was weak, hardly worth the emblem he wore, and thus he serves a far greater purpose now!” Megatron’s dragon body began to glow purple. “His energon is now my energon, and he has given his life to make his leader even more powerful than before!”

“Oh my lord,” Cryotek said with a sigh, shaking his head. “You will never be able to take back Cybertron if you continually eat your own troops.” The large, blue Predacon walked towards the mess on the floor that was Terrorsaur and picked up the small circular disc that he carried. “However, he was truthful when he stated that the planet Gaia showed a Transformer energy signal. Further to the point, our spy on Cybertron states that no exploration units have been sent out in the last hundred years or so.”

“Terrorize!” shouted Megatron, transforming back to his robot form. His two large wings spread out and glowed a bright purple before closing back up. Megatron smiled as he stretched and sat back down on his throne. “So whatever that energy signal is, it has been there for quite awhile?”

“Exactly,” Cryotek said, winking his right optic sensor. “Our analysis of the reading shows that it is either a new type of Transformer, or a very old one.”

“We cannot let this opportunity pass us by!” snarled Megatron, once again rising from his throne. “If that signal belongs to the Transformer I think it does…!”

“Then nothing will be able to stop the Predacons from conquering Cybertron!” smiled Cryotek, finishing Megatron’s sentence. He approached one of the control consoles and began to type at the keyboard. “Shall I prepare our flagship for a depature?”

“No,” Megatron quickly replied. “Prepare a smaller vessel, one that can pass through without detection from Cybertron scanners. If we can manage to find this Transformer before the Autobots catch wind of our plans, our victory will be much more than assured … it would be guaranteed!”

“And our crew, m’Lord?” asked Cryotek, almost mockingly.

“Have Sky-Byte join us,” Megatron ordered. “Have him bring his gang of misfits as well. I will summon Bruticus, just in case we do run in to some opposition.”

“And our time of depature?” asked Cryotek.

“Immediately!” snarled Megatron. “Our final victory is in reach, and nothing will stop us!”

    -----------------------------------------------

Cybertron is located in a small solar system with its own star – the light from that star allows the Autobots to create energon via a solar energy system. The energon isn’t much, but it’s more than nothing at all. Beyond Cybertron’s solar system is a solar system with the star named Sol, where the planet Gaia is located. Beyond that solar system stretches an immense asteroid field that is nearly impossible to navigate. On the other side of that asteroid belt rests a solar system with a dying, red star. The only planet that circles that dying star is a burnt out husk – there is no life on the planet whatsoever, save for the mechanoid group of Transformers known as the Decepticons. They have named the planet Charr, mostly in mocking of the atmosphere and physical landscape of the actual planet.

A system of caverns stretches out amongst Charr and the Decepticons have built the caverns up enough to the point where they can call it a base of operations – fitting for the faction that lost to both the Autobots and the Predacons during the Great War. Their leader, a Decepticon by the name of Mega-Octane, houses a large number of Decepticon warriors within his cavern fortress, awaiting the time to strike back at the other factions who drove them to this miserable planet.

Towards the top of a volcanic mountain rests the cavern that houses the leader of the Decepticons. Mega-Octane, tall with his double barrel cannons on his back pointing upward, looks out to the stars, almost day-dreaming of the day that his Decepticons can return to the glory of centuries past, when they were the most feared beings in the universe.

“I have survived more than any before me,” Mega-Octane thought to himself. “I have witnessed the start of the Great War, seen the fall or our glorious Lord Straxus, and the rise of that impudent dog Megatron and his Predacons. And I have seen our glorious warriors fall to Autobots, to Predacons, and to lack of energon on this pathetic excuse for a planet. Have I failed my followers? Have I doomed them all to stasis lock?”

“Sir!” shouted a voice from the entrance to the cavern. Mega-Octane turned to see a smaller green and orange Decepticon looking back at him. It is Rollbar, one of Mega-Octane’s trusted personal guard of Combaticon warriors. “I apologize for the intrusion sir!” saluted Rollbar.

“It is forgiven,” Mega-Octane acknowledged, turning to face his loyal follower. “What news do you bring me, Rollbar?”

“Sir!” Rollbar saluted once more. “Dreadwind has received a transmission from our sleeper agent amongst the Predacons. They are mobilizing a unit and heading towards the Sol system.”

“The Sol system?” Mega-Octane thought out-loud. “But why in the name of the Straxus would they be heading to the Sol system?”

“Unknown sir!” Rollbar responded. “But intelligence shows that Megatron himself is traveling with the Predacon unit headed there. Their home world of Tripedacus is now without their leader and ripe for the taking!”

“That black hole of a planet is no better than Charr,” responded Mega-Octane, shaking his head. “There must be something of immense importance in the Sol system for Megatron himself to abandon Tripedacus and head there…”

“The only planet of knowledge in the Sol system is the planet known as Gaia,” informed Rollbar. “The Sol system was explored prior to the Great War and Gaia was named as a future planet of interest, but no further reports were ever done because of the wars.”

“Yes, I am aware of the existence of Gaia,” said Mega-Octane, brushing off Rollbar’s explanation. “The situation calls for more investigation. If the Predacons wanted energon they would send their entire armada to attack the planet, which would rouse the Autobots from their catatonic state of peace. Our sleeper agent would have stated as much, but it sounds as if the information is rather confidential, hence the rather lackluster amount of intelligence received…”

Mega-Octane is the leader of the Decepticons because of his brilliant strategic mind. During the Great War, Mega-Octane’s strategies helped the former Decepticon Lord, Straxus, conquer numerous Autobot settlements and even take Iacon from the Autobot forces. Before the rise of Megatron, Mega-Octane was in position to take leadership of the Decepticons. However, Megatron was much more cunning and devious, and he wrestled command away from Mega-Octane and initiated the Predacon protocol, transforming Decepticons in to Predacons. Thus who volunteered were changed first, and those who wanted no part in it were then forcefully transformed, hence the civil war between Decepticon and Predacon. Ultimately, the Predacons were victorious as Mega-Octane took the remaining forces and fled Cybertron, never to return.

“Shall I prepare a strike force to intercept?” Rollbar asked, a smile on his face. Rollbar was immensely loyal to Mega-Octane, but at his spark he was a true Decepticon – the small pleasures of his life included swindling his comrades and enemies as well as absolute destruction.

“Negative,” Mega-Octane responded. “Megatron is up to something, and I want to know what it is. A show of force will do nothing to further our knowledge of the situation … we need to use stealth and espionage. Summon Movor, Wind Sheer, and Skyfire!”

“I am already here, sir,” replied a voice from the back of the cavern. Out walked a white, black, and orange Decepticon. He was slightly larger than the others, mostly due to his alternate mode – a space transport shuttle capable of using subspace to grow in size to carry other Decepticons inside of him. Another one of Mega-Octane’s loyal Combaticon warriors, Movor has been instrumental in Mega-Octane’s continued leadership of the Decepticons.

“Excellent,” Mega-Octane smiled under his faceplate. “Movor! Take the assassin brothers with you to the Sol system.”

“Wind Sheer and Skyfire?” Movor asked, slightly surprised. “Forgive my questioning sir, but why those two lunatics?”

“Skyfire’s cloaking technology makes him a capable espionage agent for this situation,” explained Mega-Octane. “Wind Sheer has the ability to teleport short distances, allowing him to get the drop on any unsuspecting enemies they may encounter. The fact that both are assassins by trade make their ability to see without being seen crucial to my plans.”

“Understood,” Movor nodded. “And my part in all of this?”

“I want you to remain in orbit around the planet Gaia,” instructed Mega-Octane. “Track any and all transmissions and relay them back to Charr. Observe and report back to me on a cycle by cycle basis, understood?”

“Yes sir!” Movor saluted, walking out of the cavern.

Mega-Octane looked back outside the window-like hole in the cavern to the stars. His optics moved towards the location of the Sol system, to the actual star known as Sol. His optics narrowed and a slight smile escaped his face underneath his scratched and old faceplate.

“What are you planning, Megatron?” he asked quietly to himself. “Whatever it is … whatever you think you’ve found … the Decepticons will claim it first, and you will die … and my face will be the last your pathetic organic optic sensors ever see…”

    ----------------------------------------------

The sound of a chamber opening, the air escaping and the liquid pouring out on to the floor, is the scene that Optimus Prime awoke to. Standing in front of him stood two Autobots, both older than most, and bearing the special insignia of the Autobot High Council. Optimus Prime attempted to move his arms but found himself incredibly weak.

“Slow down there,” one of the elders said, reaching out and grabbing Prime’s arm. “You’ve been in stasis for a few thousand years … we don’t expect you to be jumping out of the stasis pod.”

“What…what’s happening?” Optimus asked, dazed and confused. The last memory he recalls is the apparent flashback to the days of the Great War which, in retrospect to current happenings, seemed so real…

“We’ve awoken you from your stasis,” replied the other elder, his voice more strict and his stature more stern. He was mostly yellow and blue in color, complete with a gray robotic beard hanging from his face. “The time has come for you to return to your duties as the military commander of the Autobots.”

“Who are you?” Optimus asked, moving his fingers as energon rushed through his body, returning his circuits to full power.

“I am Emirate Malfurion,” responded the stricter elder. “I am the head of the Autobot High Council and it was my decision to reanimate you.”

“I am Emirate Xaaron,” replied the other elder who was more attentive to Optimus Prime. “How do you feel?” Emirate Xaaron was mostly yellow in color, even his face plates were yellow to match the rest of his body.

Optimus moved his fingers and then his arms, his neck still feeling stiff as he started to activate his motor circuits in his shoulders.

“Stiff,” Optimus replied, his vocalizer still regaining its strength. “Why have you reactivated me? I was told I would only be reactivated in the case of extreme conditions … it was my wish to remain in stasis.”

“Yes, well, things have changed,” stated Malfurion quickly and rather snappy. “Your services are required once again. We have intelligence that the Predacons are mobilizing and heading towards the planet known as Gaia, located in the Sol system.”

“The Predacons?” Optimus asked, his arms and legs now having feeling and functioning back. He laid his hand on the top of his head. “I thought the Predacons were vastly reduced in number and in hiding … why are my services required for this?”

“The situation is a little more complicated than that,” Xaaron tried to explain without going in to details. “Surely you recall the importance of the Gaia planet…”

“The details are a little fuzzy,” Prime replied. “A few thousand years in stasis will do that to a ‘bot…”

Optimus Prime rose out of the stasis pod and allowed his limbs to stretch as energon continued to flow throughout his body. His sensors were all online now as his strength returned. He seemed to tower over the two elders.

“Regardless of your reasoning, the fact of the matter is the Predacons have returned and we have reactivated you to stop them,” Malfurion stated with the same strict tone in his voice. “Your job isn’t to think about why, but to think about how … as in how you plan to eradicate this problem before it becomes an even larger problem. Understood?”

Optimus Prime’s optics narrowed as he looked at Malfurion, the elder’s optics just as narrow. Prime couldn’t help but detect a tone of impatience and even uneasiness in the elder. Something was amiss with the old Autobot, but without any information or knowledge of his history, Optimus Prime was left to let the suspicions of his behavior take a back burner to the current situation.

“All right,” Prime finally responded. “What is our method of attack?”

“You won’t be attacking,” Malfurion stated. “You’ll be defending.”

“I don’t quite understand,” Prime replied with a bit of a chuckle. “You’ve reactivated me to stop the Predacons, yet you want me to sit on the defensive?”

“The planet Gaia is a populated planet now,” explained Xaaron. “They don’t even know that Transformers exist, let alone extra-terrestrial beings. A full-scale Transformer war in their atmosphere and on their planet might be a little more than what they are accustomed to, and we hardly want to make our first impression with them a negative one.”

“You will head to Gaia with a small group of selected Autobots,” ordered Malfurion. “There you will scan alternate modes to disguise yourselves, to blend in with the regular populace. Whenever possible, you will avoid contact with their natives and only expose yourself in situations that cannot be avoided, namely skirmishes with Megatron.”

“Megatron?” Prime piped up. “Megatron is headed to Gaia?”

“Yes,” Xaaron replied. “Our informant was adamant in his transmission. The situation is sketchy to begin with, but with Megatron being there as well, the situation has turned from alerting to extreme.”

“I understand,” Prime acknowledged. “So when do I depart?”

“Immediately,” Malfurion replied, as quickly and snappy as ever. “Your Autobot entourage has already departed and are awaiting your arrival. A base of operations awaits you and the coordinates will be downloaded in to your global positioning system. You may use the Global Space Bridge Network when you are ready.”

Optimus Prime stood and looked at both the emirates, Malfurion and Xaaron, and couldn’t help but feel uneasy of the situation. Thousands of years ago Optimus Prime was a decorated war hero, the Autobot who helped defeat the Predacons. But now he felt like he was nothing more than a weapon, something to be used when needed and probably be put back in stasis when his objective was complete. The political feel of the emirates was disheartening to Optimus, as during his time it was never a question of politics but a question or right versus wrong.

He walked towards the exit of the stasis chamber, quickly observing some of the Autobots still in stasis. He didn’t recognize many of them, in fact, not a single name registered with him. He tried to gather the situation in his mind as he began to head towards the Global Space Bridge transport room. Why was Megatron headed towards Gaia? What could be there that he would want? Optimus felt like he should know the answer … but was unable to recall. It wasn’t like him to forget … after all, he was a machine, and machines do not forget. Possibly a side-effect of being in stasis he thought, and maybe after a few cycles of being online again the information would be accessible once again.

He stepped in to the bridge of the transport room and looked at the portal in front of him. Unbeknownst to Optimus Prime, he was on the first step of his true destiny, the real reason he was created in the first place, and the fate of not just Cybertron or Gaia rested on his shoulders, but of the entire Universe.

An impressive re-imagining of the RID series! Though some details have been changed, the main tone and themes of RID are very much present here. I love how you've made the rivalry between the Preds and the Cons a much larger affair between armies rather than just between two small sub-groups serving under Megatron. And you've taken the energy absorption abilities of Megatron to a gruesomely more cannibalistic level. I'm actually scared of him now!

Bringing Optimus Prime out of cryogenic stasis is a great way to start this new RID story. There's already a mystery going on even before Optimus heads for 'Gaia' (or would that be Earth now?): what is the full extent of the Autobot Council's decision to bring him out of stasis and back into immediate active duty? I'm thinking that someone's been tampering with Optimus' memories too.

And your promise for a kick-ass origin story and introduction for Scourge has me too excited for words! I think I'm feeling a nostalgic delight that I haven't felt since 2000... Thank you for bringing RID alive again, Kickback!

Awesome, man. You know, I was never really into RID, so I'm not quite sure how this matches up with established continuity, but it's very well written.

You don't seem new to writing, but one thing I noticed- you (sparingly) switched between past- and present-tense. Watch out for that, and you've got what is, so far, the perfect start.

This is a real find! Many thanks to Black_Oracle for recommending RID!
What a uncomfortable feeling for Optimus..."Hi, how are you...go fight these guys, oh and when you're finished you get to go back into statsis...no harm done." Yeesh politicians.
Megs truely has become a frightening creature. his lust for power seems to have driven him over the edge.
A new update will be most welcome.

This chapter came in a little shorter than the first (about 7 or 8 pages shorter in Microsoft Word) but it was meant to be more of a character introduction, story-set-up type of chapter. Much more Autobot love coming in Chapter 3! Much, much more :)  Enjoy, feedback appreciated. Tried to watch myself on those past/present tense mistakes from the first chapter, but as usual, I wrote a lot of this later at night and my senses aren't always at their highest ... so be kind, PD ;)

Chapter 2 – “Robots in Disguise”

The chamber that houses the Global Space Bridge on Cybertron is quite impressive. The room is large and open, very spacious, and a giant platform sits towards the end where it looks as if the room would open up like a spaceport for various shuttles … but it does not.

Optimus Prime stood at the platform, doing internal system checks as the technicians quickly worked to power up the space bridge. Optimus Prime laid his hands at his waist and observed the giant pylons to either side of him as the sound of internal engines fired up. In his peripheral vision Optimus could see the pylons begin to rotate around him, an electric field forming that was ripe with pure energy, blue in color. The sound of crackling trickled though his audio sensors as the feeling of static electricity shot across his entire body.

The room shook as loose pieces of dust and debris fell from the ceiling, landing harmlessly around him. Optimus looked back towards the technicians, concern in his optics, but a return-glance was not given as they continued to work diligently at the monitors. Optimus looked forward once more as his body began to feel heavier than usual, his movements taking much more energy to do, and his very spark being tugged at his chest.

“Something…this doesn’t…” he struggled to speak.

Suddenly, with a flash of light, all of his sensors went haywire as his optics were blinded by the same light. As the flash of light subsided, Emirate Malfurion and Emirate Xaaron entered the chamber, which was now empty save for them and the technicians – Optimus Prime had been teleported across the galaxy – or at least so they hoped.

“Was it necessary?” Xaaron asked, his gaze still fixated on the empty platform.

“What?” Malfurion replied with an annoyed tone.

“To … do what we did,” Xaaron replied with hesitation. His face showed the expression of guilt and shame. He looked at Malfurion. “He’s the greatest hero in Cybertron history.”

    Malfurion scoffed.

“Megatron has obviously been clued in to what is on Gaia,” Malfurion explained to the younger Emirate. “But he is not certain … else he would have sent what was left of the entire Predacon armada. By removing the element of certainty, we give Optimus Prime, and ourselves, a greater chance at victory without the truth being revealed.”

“But Optimus Prime himself made the decision to –”

“That is enough,” Malfurion interrupted. He placed his hand on Xaaron’s shoulder. “As an Emirate of Cybertron, it is our sworn duty to protect Cybertron, no matter the cost. Integrity and ethics are but mere elements of which we, at times, must ignore to perform our sworn duty. You understand?”

Xaaron hesitated. He spent centuries training and educating himself in the ways of the Ancient Autobots, namely Alpha Trion. The main teaching that Xaaron had sworn to live by stated that when one chooses to behave as one’s enemy to further one’s belief, one has become his own enemy instead. No more than now did Xaaron feel like a boundary had been crossed than what was done with Optimus Prime.

“I understand,” Xaaron stated coldly, removing Malfurion’s hand from his shoulder. He turned and walked towards the door, stopping right before it. He turned back to Malfurion. “But that doesn’t mean I have to agree with it.”

Xaaron then left the chamber, leaving Malfurion to himself. The older, wiser Emirate turned and looked back at the platform where Optimus Prime had recently stood and a smile crossed his face.

“You are wise for your age, young one,” Malfurion said to himself quietly. “But even you are but a pawn in the grand scheme of things …”

    --------------------------------------------------

The planet Gaia is a diverse planet, littered with various landscapes. In some areas the landscape is lush with thick vegetation – while other landscapes are barren and dry, like a scar that just won’t heal. On the northern most end of the planet, volcanoes litter a barren and harsh environment with constant flows of lava and entire sea-beds of lava that cover what was once, or will be, lush riverbeds. To the far south of the planet lies an icy landscape which holds the promise of life in the future. Scattered across the rest of the land are lush forests and fruitful plains.

The planet Gaia is a beautiful planet, rich with life.

In the middle of the largest land continent lies a lush forest with a broad range of mountains that seem to reach for the clouds during the day and touch the stars at night. But on this night, the sky is a blaze, as if someone had torched the very heavens. And in the raging fires in the sky drops a black vessel, a virus on a living planet, one that will forever leave its mark…

“Heat shields remain online,” Cryotek notified Megatron as he sat at the flight control seat in front of Megatron. “We have visual for planet surface.”

“Excellent,” Megatron sneered, a toothy smile escaping his face. “Locate a position to land and begin preparations for impending arrival. I want Sky-Byte and his troops to blend in with the natives of this pathetic mudball of a planet…”

“As you command,” replied Cryotek in a monotone voice. With a the pressing of a few buttons, the Predacon vessel – a dark metallic black ship with a large center piece and two smaller sections on either side – touched down in a small clearing in what was otherwise a dense, thick forest of giant green oak-trees. The computer systems began to shut down one by one on the ship as Cryotek looked back at Megatron. “To scan the area will take what is left of our fuel reserves … we will have to acquire more energon if we wish to use the shuttle to leave the planet.”

“Why bother?!” laughed Megatron, rising from his throne. His monstrous wings began to open and extended nearly one length of the interior of the ship to the other. “If what we are searching for is here, we can simply blow a hole through the planet and ride the impending core explosion back to Cybertron!”

“Initiating scan,” alerted the ship’s computer system. “Various life-forms in the area – proceed with form-fitting transformation processing?”

“Affirmative,” replied Cryotek, punching more commands in to the control panel. He looked towards Megatron once again. “Once the computer has finished initializing the processing scans, Sky-Byte and your Predacon warriors will be fitted with disguises of this planet’s beast life-forms.”

“Have the computer pick the strongest, most deadly life forms for my warriors!” Megatron ordered, stepping down from his thrown and towards Cryotek. “They shall fan out across this wretched planet and locate the energy signal we detected! Nothing will stand in the wake of the destruction they bring!”

The lights in the control deck of the ship began to dim, as much as they could considering how dim they already were, as the ship continued to advert more energy to the processing and reformatting process. A few monitors began to flicker or shut off completely as the strain on the electrical circuits continued to prove to be too much for the ship to handle. After a few more moments and some rather chilling sounds from the deck below, the flickering began to cease and the power began to return.

    “Formatting complete,” announced the computer.

Part of the control deck began to move as the floor itself began to open up, revealing a ramp leading down towards the lower deck. Clouds of steam began to roll up from the bottom deck, a side-effect of the formatting process that had just taken place. And through the steam and the darkness, four pairs of eyes were visible…

“Arise my Predacons!” Megatron grinned, raising his arms and extended out his hands. “Wear proudly your Predacon disguises and reveal yourselves to me!”

A large half robotic, half organic shark with the ability to hover in the air quickly wiggled its way in to the light. It smiled, flashing its incredibly razor-sharp teeth at Megatron. With a quick lunge upward, the shark revealed itself…

    “Sky-Byte!” it shouted. “TERRORIZE!”

The body of Sky-Byte twisted upwards as what was once the head of the shark became the legs of a robot. Arms shot out from the under-carriage of the shark and Sky-Byte’s head quickly was revealed. He landed on the ground and kneeled before Megatron.

“Master,” Sky-Byte began, “I have loyally served you for as long as my processor can recall. I have killed for you and I have bled for you. To commemorate our coming victory and our new alternate forms, I have prepared for you a haiku.”

    Cryotek rolled his eyes.

    Through darkest of nights,
    Silently death awaits them,
    Sky-Byte is my name.

“Excellent!” Megatron grinned. “Now, what of your warriors?”

An orange and black feline beast walked up the ramp and into the light. The claws of the beast caused a tapping sound as it approached the others.

“Gas Skunk, terrorize!” it shouted. Back legs became feet as front legs became arms. The tail of the beast, complete with a large blade at the end, twisted around like a whip to reveal the head of the warrior Gas Skunk. The Predacon looked at his arms and the rest of his body.

“What the slag?” he asked, looking up towards Sky-Byte. “What the slag kind of creature did I format in to?”

“A form fitting to your name,” Cryotek joked, a devilish grin now escaping his face. Megatron chuckled as he looked back towards the darkness.

“You think that’s bad…” came another voice from the shadows. The next pair of eyes belonged to a large, red toad. The toad was covered in warts, most of them dripping some sort of mucus on to the floor of the ramp. The others seemed to take a step back as even Megatron seemed to lean away from the last Predacon.

“Slapper…” sighed the toad. “Terrorize.” A similar transformation occurred as the toad transformed in to a wart-covered Predacon. Slapper looked at his arms and legs and lowered his head. “I haven’t had this mode for more than a few clicks and I already want to leave this stupid planet.”

Megatron looked at Sky-Byte, a look of anger across his face.

“You should have another!” he snarled, pointing his finger at Sky-Byte. “You had three of your personal warriors accompany us! Where is the third?!”

“I am Dark Scream,” stated a voice directly above them. The voice itself was British in its accent. All the Predacons looked upward to see a winged blue and white creature staring at them from the ceiling of the control deck. “Had I been anything other than a Predacon, your sparks would have been extinguished by now.”

“Watch your tongue, peasant,” growled Megatron, clenching his fists. “I have feasted on the flesh of far more dangerous and powerful Predacons than you…”

“Terrorize!” shouted Dark Scream as he fell from the ceiling of the control deck. His body quickly twisted and turned as a nimble warrior landed in front of the others. With a flash, Dark Scream pulled his sword and placed the tip of the blade at the neck of Slapper. Dark Scream smiled. “My internal processors show my beast mode prefers darkness over sunlight … which suits my lifestyle rather splendidly…”

“Yup,” Slapper sighed again. “Really hatin’ this place…”

    Megatron looked at Sky-Byte.

“Dark Scream is an assassin,” Sky-Byte explained. “Trained in Metallikato, Crystalocution, and Circuit-Su…”

Slapper looked at Dark Scream, who still had the tip of his blade on Slapper’s neck.

“Do it,” Slapper suggested. “You’ll be doing me a favor.”

“Enough bantering,” Megatron scowled, taking a couple of steps down the ramp. “Where is Bruticus? Where is my personal Predacon warrior?”

“Meg…Mega…Tron!” growled a voice further in the darkness. The voice broke out in to a howl. “Some…something…is wrong!”

In to the light stepped a large wolf-like animal in multiple colors – black, red, orange, and yellow. The most alarming feature of this animal was the fact that it had three separate heads, of which the two smaller heads on the side of the creature were currently snapping at each other.

“By the Dark Gods themselves…!” gasped Megatron in a mixture of grotesque and awe. “Bruticus…you are absolutely terrifying!”

“The…pain!” snarled Bruticus, breaking in to a howl once again. “Can’t…even…transform! Pain is…searing through…every circuit…!”

Cryotek walked down the ramp and stood next to Megatron as both observed the deformed figure that was the alternate mode of the warrior Bruticus. Cryotek’s fingers reached his chin as he began to slightly rub it, a sign that he was thinking.

“I assume the scanning device ran out of energy before it could finish fully reformatting him,” Cryotek concluded. “Bruticus is literally half-formatted! Oh Megatron, please allow me to experiment on him! This is incredibly rare…”

Megatron was silent as he observed Bruticus and his newly grotesque form. The look in Bruticus’ eyes was that of fear and absolute pain and suffering. The dog could hardly even stand. The verdict, and choice, was clear.

“If Bruticus dies then he is weak,” Megatron concluded. “The weak have no right to live in a universe filled with the strong. If he dies, Cryotek, you can do whatever you please with his deformed carcass as he will be of no use to me.”

“But…but…ma…master!” cried out Bruticus as the beast fell to the floor. “I … I am … loy … loyal!”

“Silence!” Megatron ordered. “Either pull yourself together or die! But do not waste my time any longer! Predacons!” he shouted, turning to Sky-Byte and the others. “Finish whatever preparations you have left! We leave in one mega-cycle!”

The other Predacons saluted and quickly scurried off to various locations on the ship to either gather belongings or to grab gear from the armory. Megatron and Cryotek stood alone once again on the ramp connected to the control deck.

“How many stasis pods did you bring?” Megatron asked Cryotek.

“Five,” Cryotek responded coldly, still staring down at Bruticus. “However, with the lack of energy left in the ship’s circuits, I will have to manually format each one of them. It will not be an easy process…”

“Then I suggest you start immediately,” Megatron fired back, annoyed. “I expect five new Predacons by the time I return to this ship.” Megatron walked down the ramp himself, stopping at the bottom. He turned and looked at Cryotek from over his shoulder. “If you fail me … you suffer a fate worse than Terrorsaur!”

Megatron walked out of site as Cryotek’s blank look turned to that of a grimace. A fire raged inside his eyes.

“There will be five new Predacons when you return,” Cryotek thought to himself. “But after I dissect your pet and rid myself of him … oh just you wait Megatron, just you wait…”

He sat at his seat, his fingers gingerly rubbing a picture of a blonde hair, blue eyed woman holding a young infant. In the picture they were smiling … it was the image that Captain John Mitchell held dear to his heart. Before accepting the mission to pilot the Odyssey II spacecraft in to the orbit of the planet to study sunlight radiation, John’s wife Bethany gave birth to his first son, Michael. Soon after he was awarded the honor and the chance to pilot the first spacecraft to be launched in to space in over twenty years, a dream come true for the Air Force pilot.

“I swear,” stated a voice from behind John, startling him. “If you rub that picture any more, I’m going to push you out of this spacecraft.”

The voice belonged to Lieutenant Damion Marks, a black skinned man with a shaved head. From behind John he placed a hand on John’s right shoulder.

“You touch that thing anymore and you’re going to go blind,” he joked.

“Shut the hell up,” smiled John, turning to his co-pilot and the only other man aboard the spacecraft. “Don’t you have a barrage of tests to run or something?”

Damion jumped to the right of John and sat in the seat to John’s right, the chair spinning in a full circle before coming to a rest. Damion kicked his feet up onto the control panel and smiled.

“Probably,” he said, looking at his fingers and then at John. “But man … check out the view.”

Both of the astronauts turned and observed their planet with a sense of pride. Not many people had ever been in space, and fewer still had the luxury of being in space for a full week. During their off-time they would constantly stare out at the planet below, taking in the breathless beauty from the green continents and blue oceans. Up here, it seemed like they could touch the heavens and escape all the woes back home.

“As much as I love it up here, I can’t wait to get home to my girl and my little boy,” John confessed, turning his gaze back to the four by six photograph. “I wish they could both see what we get to see, to experience all the things we get to experience.”

“Yeah,” Damion smiled. “Food in a tube and crapping in a bag – that’s the life!”

Both men stared out in to space again, distracted by the sheer size of the universe around them. Damion closed his eyes and let out a sigh as John looked out to the stars.

“Just think,” John said after a moment. “There could be whole civilizations out there, doing the same thing we’re doing right now. It really takes your breath away to think of the possibilities that the universe holds.”

“Check out that star,” Damion said, pointing to the brightest star in the distance. “Man, how BIG is that star? It almost seems like it’s getting bigger.”

John studied the star for a few moments and his eyes opened large as he came to a startling revelation.

“Damion,” he whispered, pushing a few buttons on the control panel while his gaze remain fixated on the star. “It IS getting bigger…!”

Damion removed his feet from the control panel and sat up, leaning forward to get a better look. Sure enough, the star continued to grow in size, getting brighter and brighter.

    “Holy crap,” Damion whispered. “I don’t think that’s a star…!”

“Mission control!” shouted John in to the microphone on the control panel. “Mission control, do you copy? This is John Mitchell of the Odyssey II spacecraft, come in!”

“Mission control copies,” came a scratchy voice on a radio wave.

“Mission control, we have an unidentified object visible from our cockpit that appears to be heading right in our direction,” John explained. “Please advise!”

“Captain Mitchell,” came a different voice over the radio. “This is Sergeant West of the United Armed Forces. We’re remote-activating your engines to do an about-face. This will cause the camera on the back of the shuttle to see what you’ve just seen so we can better assess the situation from here on the ground. Do not be alarmed from sudden movements.”

“Roger that,” John replied, a shakiness not present before in his voice. John turned to Damion, still wide-eyed as ever. “Damion … what the hell is that thing?”

“I…I don’t know man,” Damion said, still startled.

The twinkling light zipped forward and stopped a few hundred yards from the Odyssey II spacecraft. It was a white ship, circular in design but definitely alien in origin. A hatch on the side of the ship opened as two metallic beings, complete with wings, emerged and slowly approached the shuttle. Clearly visible on their wings was a purple emblem of sorts.

“Greetings, native!” stated one of the metallic beings, bowing in gesture. “My name is Skyfire and I come to you in peace.”

The other metallic being was motionless next to the first, arms crossed.

“You’re wasting time,” the second being said sternly. “We were to avoid contact with any natives and search the planet for Predacons.”

“Shut up Wind Sheer,” Skyfire said, turning to his companion. “Maybe this guy has seen something … his information could prove valuable to the Decepticon cause!”

“Hurry up,” said the voice of the alien spacecraft. “Mega-Octane will be slaggin’ ticked if he finds out we wasted time and resources talking to the planet’s natives.”

“This is important Movor!” snapped back Skyfire. The Decepticon, gray in color, turned back to the Odyssey II spacecraft. “Have you seen any other spacecraft in the area? Namely a large, black vessel that rivals the size of my comrade behind us?”

From inside the spacecraft, John and Damion were frozen in both fear and complete and total shock.

“Aliens…” Damion whispered. “Mother fuggin’ aliens…!”

“Alien robots,” John whispered back. “We’re witnessing a children’s movie come to life.”

Skyfire approached the spacecraft as the engines on the craft began to turn it in a counter-clockwise motion.

“Hey hey!” Skyfire shouted to the spacecraft. “It’s impolite to not answer a question from a guest!”

Wind Sheer’s optics zoomed in on the hull of the spacecraft. The image of John Mitchell and Damion Marks were clearly visible as his optics zoomed back out.

“The spacecraft is not sentient,” Wind Sheer stated coldly. “It is actually piloted by two organic beings.”

“What!?” Movor shouted through their communication links. Movor shot out a yellow beam that scanned the spacecraft from one end to the other as it continued to turn. “Wind Sheer is right,” Movor concluded after a moment. “The spacecraft contains no spark … just organic creatures.”

“Well now I feel silly,” Skyfire said with a chuckle. “I’ve been wasting time talking to an inanimate object! How embarrassing!”

“Move out of the way,” Movor ordered, turning so that he faced the Odyssey spacecraft head-on. “Our mission is now compromised as we have been discovered by the planet’s organic species.”

    “John….” Damion whispered. “I don’t think they’re happy with us…”

John grabbed the photo of his family and clutched it to his chest. He lowered his head and began to whisper a prayer that Damion couldn’t hear.

“Do it,” Wind Sheer said with an annoyed tone. Suddenly, two laser pulses shot out from guns under Movor’s wings, slamming in to the spacecraft. A white light was all the two human occupants saw before an immense heat covered both of them, burning their suits and igniting their very flesh on fire. Their skin melted and burned away as the spacecraft exploded into a million pieces, littering the atmosphere in debris. The last thing John Mitchell saw before he burned to death was the photo of his family burning in to ashes between his fingers…

“Honey,” Skyfire said with a grin. “We’re home!”

Movor’s spacecraft mode began to glow a bright yellow as various pieces turned and folded into each other. Within moments, as the bright yellow light subsided, Movor became an exact replica of the same spacecraft that he had just destroyed.

“Descend and take the form of military vessels,” Movor ordered to Skyfire and Wind Sheer. “I will begin a planet-wide scan for radio communications and any organic military movements. Obviously these beings are more sophisticated than we anticipated, and with the destruction of their spacecraft, I imagine they will be less than happy…”

“Agreed,” Wind Sheer stated, transforming in to a Cybertron-esque aerial fighter jet. “Skyfire, we’re off!”

“Yeah yeah,” Skyfire groaned, transforming in to a similar type of vehicle and blasting his engines as he began the plummet into Gaia’s atmosphere. Wind Sheer followed suit, turning about-face and diving towards the planet’s surface.

Deep underneath the planet’s surface, in a secured military bunker, stood an older man with glases and a full gray beard. He wore a brown, camouflaged colored military uniform. A small silver metal plate sat top his left breast with the word “WEST” etched into it.

“Odyssey is offline sir,” said an unnamed technician behind him.

“So,” Sgt. West stated quietly. “They’ve come back…”

Great story so far! One thing I noticed was the repetition. You're saying "Optimus Prime" a lot, and had "landscape" several times all close together. Also, "A similar transformation occurred as the toad transformed..." and "Damion jumped to the right of John and sat in the seat to John’s right..." could have been changed.

I like what you're doing with the characters. Interesting additions to Darkscream. Nice Haiku, as well.
