How good of a toy is this? I missed RID, and I've been fascinated by this version of Prime for a while. Now that I have the Tit version, my interested has been peaked further.

Personally, I like it. The fire truck is huge, sounds are cool (except for the "Maximize!", regular bot is super poseable, super mode is imposing and just as poseable. And it combines with Magnus, another great toy imo.

While the Titanium version is a nice representation of the character, it can't compare with the sheer awesomeness of the real thing. Unquestionably my favorite Prime toy, and can be found fairly cheap.

Since my recommendation is 100% positive, here are some of the things you'll hear from the detractors:

    - The non-super mode robot has no real alt mode, other than being just the front end of a firetruck.
    - He's a partsformer - lots of bits to take apart and reassemble when changing modes
    - The "base" mode is a bit of a waste (I can actually agree with this).

All in all, none of those things really bother me... and plus you've got the whole combining with Magnus thing, which is just awesome.

It's a great toy! The truck mode looks great and sounds great with the sounds and light up features. Both modes are nicely detailed and option for different modes (regular, powered up, combined) is a cool feature. The transformation is on the harder side, but it's still reallly cool, in my opinion.

Any notable differences between the RID and Car Robots versions?

He's one of the best Primes ever made. Excellent vehicle mode, two distinct robot modes - a traditional Optimus one, but more sleek and dynamic looking than ones from the past, and a bulked up super mode, both with excellent proportions.
He's also got some very nice poseability on him. I find a few parts are a little fiddly at times, but nothing terrible. I fell in love with the early pictures of him so mine's a Fire Convoy.

Different SFX, RiD adds decals, I think perhaps some of the markings on the cab area are different too. Also, I think the plastic on the RiD version lacks the flecks of glitter in it, so it looks less "shiney" than the CR one.
Nothing tremendous, though. Whichever one you get, you won't be disappointed.

The R.I.D. version has a few more tabs and holds together a little better in fire truck mode then the Car Robots version and the same with the Omega Prime mode, but no amount of tabs can deal with how top heavy Omega Prime is

RID Prime has more flat colors to his plastic, his red and grey specifically were almost metallic as Fire Convoy. There's a few minor paint changes to RID Prime, like his Matrix chamber's center hole being painted in and his eyes being more bronze colored than the yellow gold on Fire Convoy. RID Prime has Autobot symbols added to his vehicle mode that Fire Convoy lacks, and the sound chip plays phrases that were spoken in japanese for Fire Convoy.

The ladder side on the RID version is lacking the "holes" that the CR version has as well

Get whichever is the cheaper one to find. Because people don't realize the awesomeness of this toy, you might be able to get this and Magnus (trust me, you'll want him, too) mint out of box for under $40. Or at least I did. Make sure you get instructions, though.

RID prime is still my favorite "modern" Prime. He is FANTASTIC. THe only gripe i have is that both his front tires split and I had to superglue them together again. Def get magnus at the same time, if you don't you WILL want one eventually. :-D

I'd say go with the cheaper one you can get. I have the Car Robot version and played with the RiD version once and did not notice any differences in terms of feel and transformation. Of course there are a few diff in looks as it's been pointed out.

I love the fact that he can combine with Magnus but I have to say magnus is a real pain. I had such a hard time getting his parts to lock in. I've read others having the same problem too.
