To think they want people to buy things from people they represent. Can you imagine what they would do if they hated us?

You know, from a moral standpoint, I'd really hate to be part of the prosecution.

    YEAH!

How DARE they allow for a period of grieving. What's worse is that they gave them a full TWO MONTHS to do it!

    F'n bastards!

I know when my mom/dad/cousin/fish dies I want to be subpoened to testify in court at the exact same time as the funeral!

    Unbelievable.
Drop the case, you fucking retards. Your target is DEAD. Leave their family alone, before the few people on the planet who DON'T think you're a bunch of amoral moneygrabbing bastards wake up to that fact.
I don't see how anyone can defend the RIAA this time.

Um ... they DO hate us.

They hate that we have money in our wallets, which isn't theirs yet.

I think in this case it may well be that its the Lawyer himself whos responsible for the more dodgy aspects of his conduct, given the sheer number of these cases the R.I. Ass of America brought I doubt they are kept up to date on all of them, I wouldn't be surprised they just hand a list of names and the logs they used to ID them to their local attack-laywers and say "we want to sue all these people for as much as you can make these logs seem worth" and then just hand off the entire thing to the Attack-lawyer.

Do you also agree with the RIAA's underhanded tactics, misrepresenting of the law and their convincing a 15 year old girl to commit perjury?

Or do you just always side with the RIAA in these threads as devils advocate?

So, let me get this straight: somebody steals something. Then dies when they're being brought to court over it. So with the original defendant dead, now they go after the family, who potentially had nothing to do with the crime? That is fucking low.

Well, you got most of it right.

The defendant is accused of stealing. The defendant then dies while involved in the middle of a lawsuit. The family, to allow for grieving, is given a stay on the case for 60 days (instigated at the request of those f'ing rude bastards the RIAA) during which essentially all legal proceedings are on hold. Once the stay is over, the lawsuit continues with the estate of the deceased now the defendant. Since the defendant can no longer be questioned (for obvious reasons - though most on here would say the RIAA will attempt to dig up the corpse), depositions of the defendant's family who potentially have knowledge pertinent to the case will be taken. A deposition is "testimony under oath, especially a statement by a witness that is written down or recorded for use in court at a later date." The witnesses, who presumably had nothing to do with the alleged crime, are not being sued or "gone after" as you put it. There is nothing "fucking low" about any of this as it's all standard legal "stuff" with the lawsuit still aimed at the original defendant.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned, but the lawsuit has since been stopped at the RIAA's request due to bad publicity.

Hmmm is it true that the RIAA has never WON a case?
That its all settlements, dropped cases and the like?

I have no idea. I don't follow this stuff typically.

Though it should be noted that from the RIAA's perspective, settlement equals a win. ;)

You've GOT to be fucking kidding.
Who is DEAD. And I don't see why their family should be put through hell; surely losing their loved one is enough. "Standard legal stuff" doesn't make it right.
    Good. This was frankly reprehensible.

I'm NOT fucking kidding. And I went out of my way to explain why.

So if I rob your mom of her life savings with a phishing scam, you sue me, I die in the middle of the lawsuit, then that's it? Lawsuit over? Her savings gone? You have no recourse? No, methinks you've got to be fucking kidding.
