As I'm sure many of you are aware, I've been extremely dissatisfied with my city's governing body for some time. I had planned to run for my district's City Council seat when it comes up in 2 years time. However, a conversation with a local political DJ has changed my plans a bit. He offered to be my campaign manager if I filed to run for Mayor of Topeka, Kansas and, after speaking with my wife and my close friends, I have decided to do so.
I file my paperwork Monday morning.

I've done a lot of things in jest or halfassed in the past. As such, the standard reaction when I spoke to people was for them to laugh nervously, then ask if I was serious.
Let me assure you all, I am very serious. Topeka is a city with severe problems. I don't anticipate actually being elected, but by running, I hope to bring these issues to light and force the city council to pay attention to the electorate and, God willing, actually do something about them.
It is my hope that the exposure I'll recieve running for mayor will help my campaign for City Council down the road. Though, given the poor voter turnout here in Topeka, combined with a distinct lack of people filing to run, there is a real chance I can win this thing.

Whatever happens, I just hope and pray that I can do something, anything to improve this town that I'm raising my son in. Right now, it's going down the toilet. I'm going to strive to change that.

I have nothing but overwhelming respect for people who endeavor to serve in public office.

That being said, if you want to be taken even halfway seriously, you might consider taking a break from posting on a Transformers website--and especially from starting threads that sound a little crazy to normal people, like "Rhinox for mayor."

    RIP kiddies. :(

Man, good luck. I'd vote for you if I were in the area. You're a good guy with a clear head on your shoulders and I think you'll definately make a difference.

Considering I call in to the politics radio show using the name 'rhino', I'm not too worried.

Bill's a decent man. I've a lot of respect for him. I just happen to disagree with him on several fronts. I think he could use his bully pulpit more effectively and that's what I'll do, should I win.

Man, you're going to make an awesome mayor. Im also shocked you're going for such a position. I swear man, TFW has the most awesome members any site could have.

If there's anything we can do to help... with the small stuff atleast, we'll always be ready for you. it's kind of like you have over a 1,000 voluntary assistants if you need.

May the best man win, so congrats in advance

Fearful of the Ixnay noay hetay oliticspay rule,
i want to say before the lock that any decent person who just wants to run to either bring exposure to the needs of their community or wants just a shot at fixing it has my vote.

Down here we had a man elected governor just for telling folks he was going to scam the highway paving projects and pocket the money.
well, they voted him in and he did that. kept his word.

last time we had an honest man in the capitol, too.

so stick to your guns and be straight with the folks.
see how far it gets you.
    good luck to ya.
