I have added a detailed review of the Transformers the Movie 20th Anniversary DVD. I have gone over the disk with a fien tooth comb to give as good a breakdown as possible. I review everything from audio and video quality, to the extra features. Check it out Here.

Also, I have added my experience on the fan commentary. To read about what went on and how we handled it, click Here.

Great review and recap of your experience with the commentary Joe. You've just made this wait for release a little more difficult for me.

    Good job Joe

So Joe how nervous were you in giving the commentary?

I know I was nervous when Dahveed interviewed me for his documentary project last month. So I can only imagine how nervous you guys were since your interview would be more wide spread

Glad you enjoyed the experience though \m/

Oh before I forget you mention the vid quality on the commercials isn't the best. Is it worse or equal to the quality of the commercials that can be downloaded from seibertron.com

I didn't dowload commercials from Seibertron, so I can't say. They're from an old VHS, some are ok, while others are downright hard to watch.

Thanks for the recap and what went down with the commentary, I'm looking forward to the commentary more than anything else to be honest.

So ... Kid Dynamite posted that the fullscreen was the real deal, but you've said in your review that it's the cropped down version. I'm confused - Which is it?

When I popped the Rhino and Sony Fullscreen versions in and looked at them side-b-side (one on my TV on on my laptop), I could definately see a difference in what was on screen. The Rhino version has a bit more info. I'll double check once again, when I get home from work tonight.

Cool. You don't have to post them (I know you can't) but some screencaps might be helpful. I made this little comparison with the promotional footage on youTube:

KD said the Sony release actually had *very slightly* more image than the Rhino release. Let us know whenever you get a chance to check.

Screencaps from the Sony DVD are a definate no go. A certain site ruined that for everyone.

Well if they did, I THINK they took down the screencaps as the only images I've found are of the DVD and the inserts.

Either way, it's a shame that that did do that. But I guess that's the rep they want to have *shrugs*

It's really nice to see official sources recognizing the accumulated knowledge of the fandom and tapping into it during the creative process. Whether it be for this, the comics, the toyline itself, whatever - I think the last few years have seen unprecedented cooperation. It definitely makes me feel like part of the process, even if I wasn't personally involved.

To all who were involved with this, kudos! Can't wait to see it. Any chance of sliding a TFW2005 mention in there? :D

Could you please tell me how the encoding was? I've been worried mostly about pixelation. The Rhyno release suffered from this pretty badly. If there is any, you'd notice it during momments of action.

    thanks

I watched it on a 50 inch HDTV upconverted to 1080i (first viewing) and 720p (second viewing) and the action moved crisply and without any major artifacting. I was thoroughly impressed, especially after watching the Rhino version on the same TV and shaking my head the whole time. Like I said, this DVD is the best looking of any Movie release.

Very nice review. Totally can't wait.

What exactly was on the announcement/trailer for the Sony re-release of the series? Any news about extras? Or was it simply an announcemen that the re-releases would be coming?

It was a montage off G1 footage and at the end it said coming to DVD in 2007.
